Vegas Mayor Faces Recall After Offering City as Coronavirus 'Control Group'

Source: Newsweek

Daniel Villarreal 10 hrs ago

Doug Polk, a former professional poker player, has taken the first step to starting a recall petition that could oust Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman after she offered her city up as a "control group" to see if quickly reopening businesses would result in new coronavirus infections.

On Wednesday, Polk visited the city clerk's office to file a notice of intent to circulate a recall petition. He must now collect 6,745 signatures from registered voters who took part in last year's municipal primary election by Aug. 4.

If he succeeds, the city would hold a mayoral recall election to let voters decide whether to remove Goodman.

"[Goodman has] failed to responsibly represent her constituency, not only in her clear disregard for public health, but also in her support for the casino owners over the people of Las Vegas," Polk said in a brief statement to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Anderson Cooper...I literally don't know how he got through that. We watched the whole thing and that woman is clueless. How on earth is she the mayor of that city?

It didn't work out so well. What's that thing about doing the same thing and expecting different results?

Systemically detecting (and properly quarantining) the infected and contagious would have systemically reduced the number of people that the herd immunity of the uninfected would have had to "compete" with

4. Possible Problems:
Fri May 8, 2020, 02:54 PM
May 2020

1) Vegas residents infecting each other
2) Vegas residents infecting their tourists
3) Vegas tourists being infected by Vegas residents or other Vegas tourists
4) Vegas tourists infected by Vegas residents or other Vegas tourists taking the virus "home" with them

Definite Solution:
There's a testing kit that uses saliva instead of blood or mucus, doesn't cost a lot, and is easy enough to reproduce to roll out nationally. This would make it possible to detect and properly quarantine the infected and contagious

Glad to see Doug is doing something positive with his free time. Maybe he should think about running for Mayor. Although he's probably to intelligent for the position. LV seems to have a history of stupid mayors.
