China refutes 24 'lies' by U.S. politicians over coronavirus

Source: Reuters

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has issued a lengthy rebuttal of what it said were 24 “preposterous allegations” by some leading U.S. politicians over its handling of the new coronavirus outbreak. The Chinese foreign ministry has dedicated most of its press briefings over the past week to rejecting accusations by U.S. politicians, especially Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, that China had withheld information about the new coronavirus and that it had originated in a laboratory in the city of Wuhan.

A 30-page, 11,000-word article posted on the ministry website on Saturday night repeated and expanded on the refutations made during the press briefings, and began by invoking Abraham Lincoln, the 19th century U.S. president. “As Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all the time and fool all the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time,” it said in the prologue.

The article also cited media reports that said Americans had been infected with the virus before the first case was confirmed in Wuhan. There is no evidence to suggest that is the case.

Keen to quash U.S. suggestions that the virus was deliberately created or somehow leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the article said that all evidence shows the virus is not man-made and that the institute is not capable of synthesising a new coronavirus.

I'll tattoo a picture of Cheeto Benito on my butt.

No matter how corrupt our current administration may be, or how many lies it tells, it will NEVER match China.

They have been at economic and political war with us since we took Britain's side in the Opium Wars, and screwing us every they can since we opened up trade. The only reason we trade with them is that our elites find it useful to offshore our jobs and view them as a partner in screwing us working folks.

researchers such as Ralph Baric (University of North Carolina) and Shi Zhengli (Wuhan Institute of Virology):

Here we examine the disease potential of a SARS-like virus, SHC014-CoV, which is currently circulating in Chinese horseshoe bat populations1. Using the SARS-CoV reverse genetics system2, we generated and characterized a chimeric virus expressing the spike of bat coronavirus SHC014 in a mouse-adapted SARS-CoV backbone.

In addition to offering preparation against future emerging viruses, this approach must be considered in the context of the US government–mandated pause on gain-of-function (GOF) studies22. On the basis of previous models of emergence (Fig. 4a,b), the creation of chimeric viruses such as SHC014-MA15 was not expected to increase pathogenicity. Although SHC014-MA15 is attenuated relative to its parental mouse-adapted SARS-CoV, similar studies examining the pathogenicity of CoVs with the wild-type Urbani spike within the MA15 backbone showed no weight loss in mice and reduced viral replication23. Thus, relative to the Urbani spike–MA15 CoV, SHC014-MA15 shows a gain in pathogenesis.

that it did not originate in China at all.

We really do not know, do we? We have followed the trail backwards to China, but did we go back far enough?

We really have no idea. Besides, we have more important things to do than demonize another country . . .

We have to take care of our own.

but they were also warned about the risks of "gain of function" research in 2014 when the Obama Administration placed a voluntary moratorium on this research, in order to better understand the risks. In 2017 that moratorium was lifted during the Trump Administration, not having much to do with the Chinese government's intentions.

Fuck them all. The propagandists who put their own politics above human life and the 4th Estate princes of truth and beauty who never saw a fact they couldn't massage into more likes on the web and who presume to talk down to the rest of us rather than speak to us as intelligent equals. Of course some of them can't parse the choices involving food, water and hope for the future. I say let them cover weather, fashion, and sports and keep their hair the hell out of the news.
