Democrats unveil $3 trillion Covid relief package and plan to vote this weekLast edited Tue May 12, 2020, 04:27 PM - Edit history (1)

By Clare Foran, Manu Raju and Haley Byrd, (CNN)House Democrats announced a sweeping new Covid-19 stimulus bill on Tuesday with a price tag expected to be more than $3 trillion -- an amount that would stand as the largest relief package in history. The legislation, which allocates more funding for state and local governments, coronavirus testing, and a new round of direct payments to Americans, sets up an immediate clash with the Republican-controlled Senate, where leaders have said another round of emergency funding is not yet needed. Democrats released the 1,815-page legislative text of the bill Tuesday afternoon and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke from the US Capitol after its introduction. Pelosi took aim at congressional Republicans who have argued that it would be better to first evaluate how already-enacted aid is implemented before moving ahead with another relief bill. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100213428343
And then check with your governor's office. My governor (Louisiana) is hiring hundreds of people to start contact tracing. The only requirements are: High school diploma Ability to keep records Willingness to undergo training |

3. this bill includes that $2000 per month payments. No way that's going to pass, but it's
a good jumping off point for negotiations. I'm in the same boat as you. I don't qualify for PPE cause I have no employees, no unemployment cause I only had a seasonal job - which I quit due to Covid, wasn't laid off - there's no other work around here right now...I'm going to probably lose my tiny little art studio / gift shop unless we get at least one more stimulus payment. I am white knuckling it praying for another check!

10. I don't think this one has monthly payments. It has another one-time payment.
Either way I don't trust Republicans to do what's needed. They're going to keep holding the country hostage.

5. Most importantly, it includes funding for testing, Post Office, and vote by mail
If Mitch won’t pass this, I say shut the govt down until November, see how Trump and GOP fare in the elections.

7. Wait and see Mitch?
I have not gotten the first check, neither have many of my friends. For most people those bills have already been late on month and about to be 2. My IRS status site says it will be mailed late this month. But the Half trillion free cash to non tax paying billionaires have already been put into off shore accounts. Fuck the Russian treason turtle. He gets his cash from our taxes and Putin.

8. Republicans say NO and it would be dead on arrival.........
Gosh...HOW to pay for it?? Certainly wasn't a concern when a 14% TAX CUT was given to Corporations and Republicans rich butt buddies. Giving the Pentagon BILLIONS more per year is never a problem either.

The GOP isnt on board with it either way, I dont see the point of watering it down from the initial proposals.

13. When the rePUKES damn this stimulus bill they will own the consequences .
And those consequences cross into the Cult. Dem leaders need to pin this to them right into the election....and they will. No matter what the final number is, and unfortunately it will be lower, the hurt will be on the rePUKES. #VoteBlue
