Republicans win back California House seat they lost in 2018 after Democrat concedes

Source: CNN

Republicans have won back a California US House seat they had lost in the 2018 midterms, flipping it from blue to red in a high-profile victory

The win came after Democrat Christy Smith conceded to Republican Mike Garcia on Wednesday in the special election for seat left vacant when Katie Hill, a Democrat, resigned amid controversy last year.

"While it's critical that we ensure every vote is counted and recorded, we believe that the current tally shows Mike Garcia is the likely victor in the May 12 special election. As such, I'd like to congratulate him," Smith said in a statement on Wednesday.

This seems premature and a bit foolish to me. Thousands of votes are still to be counted. Why concede now?

My daughter tried to text (from San Francisco) for Smith's campaign, but they were focusing on phone banking--which she can't do, since she has a speech disability-- and she thinks (from her tons of experience) that many people are better reached through texting.

Mainly, I'm pissed at the Republican ratf#cking that caused Katie Hill to resign.

So true.

We have a criminally insane, murderous, treasonous, pathologically lying hog installed in the Oval Office, and the party of putin (Formerly the GOP) doesn't give one shit about how he's murdering citizens, and destroying not only our economy and country from the inside out, but destroying the world as well.

MoscowMitch and the gang don't CARE.

Meanwhile, the party of putiner's can scare some Dems enough, and they'll just go away (I'm not talking about Anthony Wiener who had to go). But I'm talking about Hill who carried on a consensual affair with a staffer, and was porn-shamed by her ex. Not saying that she didn't make a mistake, but dammit look at what tRump has BEEN doing and getting away with going on 4 years now.

While this has traditionally been a GOP held district the registration now skews really well DEM yet a far higher % of republicans voted than democrats. We can't win if we don't vote. The good news is that that they have 5 months to fix this but it needs to be done everywhere.
