The nations largest teachers union launched a $1.6 million advertising campaign on Thursday to drum up support for federal funding that union leaders say is crucial to reopening schools safely.
Television, cable and digital ads will push Congress to pass the $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill introduced by House Democrats.
While not perfect, said National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen Garcia, the proposal includes $100 billion for K-12 and higher education, $915 billion in state and local aid that could be used to help schools and $1.5 billion to expand student access to the internet.
Senate Republicans have said they are not planning to vote on any new relief until June.

(63,203 posts)There is absolutely no benefit to herding children back into overcrowded schools to serve as petri dishes to spread and grow coronavirus.

(51,584 posts)However I agree with Post #1. No schools are safe for reopening. Kids are germ carriers and will infect everyone in their homes, including grandparents. I was a K-6 teacher and I wouldn't step foot in a classroom if you put a gun to my head and neither would my other K-6 co-workers in various states that I am in touch with.

(11,155 posts)shouldn't go back to the buildings. It is another thing to have the tools in place to educate ALL the students not just the ones with Internet access and for the younger children, someone home to keep an eye on them.
WE NEED A PLAN, THEN WE NEED TO EVALUATE IT, THEN WE NEED TO FUND IT, AND THEN WE NEED TO EXECUTE IT.
I would love to get back into the school buildings. It can be frustrating trying to remote support, computers etc., teachers and students.
