Ken Osmond, best known for his role as the troublemaker Eddie Haskell on the television comedy "Leave It to Beaver," died on Monday morning, his manager confirmed to NBC News. He was 76.
The cause of death is unknown.
Osmond, a native of Glendale, California, began his career as a child actor with his first speaking part at age 9 in the film "So Big," starring Jane Wyman and Sterling Hayden, followed by "Good Morning Miss Dove," and "Everything But the Truth. He also guest-starred on television series, including "Lassie," "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," "Wagon Train," "Fury," and "The Loretta Young Show."
In 1957, Osmond auditioned for the the Eddie Haskell role, which was originally intended to be a guest appearance, but those involved with the show were so impressed with Osmond's portrayal that the character became a key component of the series throughout its six-season run of 234 episodes.

(51,584 posts)it would be interesting if he tried to give you a ticket for something. I'm sure he had a lot of funny stories to tell. "Gee officer, you look especially dashing this morning. You certainly are doing a great job writing that ticket, can I give you a hand, etc".

(34,373 posts)I think the two funniest shows were when the Beaver lost the money that Ward gave him for a haircut so Wally cut it and butchered it and when the Beav got trapped in the giant billboard soup bowl.

(15,082 posts)Jerry Mathers (The Beave) lived in the fraternity next door. I met him once when he came through a receiving line at our house. He was polite - and very short. I'm sure it wasn't easy being a young man trying to meet women with that hanging around his neck!

(9,165 posts)Only the four Cleavers actually had contracts on that show. Everyone else was paid by the week. That is only if they were in a given weeks episode. Although Ken Osmond and Frank Bank as Lumpy had continuing roles from very early in the series roles that became larger as time went on they were still paid only if they worked.
Osmond retired from the LA police department because of PTSD caused by the shooting incident described in the article. His autobiography, and Frank Banks are both quite interesting.
