The woman behind 'Roe v. Wade' didn't change her mind on abortion. She was paid

Source: LA Times

When Norma McCorvey, the anonymous plaintiff in the landmark Roe v. Wade case, came out against abortion in 1995, it stunned the world and represented a huge symbolic victory for abortion opponents: “Jane Roe” had gone to the other side. For the remainder of her life, McCorvey worked to overturn the law that bore her name.

But it was all a lie, McCorvey says in a documentary filmed in the months before her death in 2017, claiming she only did it because she was paid by antiabortion groups including Operation Rescue.

“I was the big fish. I think it was a mutual thing. I took their money and they’d put me out in front of the cameras and tell me what to say. That’s what I’d say,” she says in “AKA Jane Roe,” which premieres Friday on FX. “It was all an act. I did it well too. I am a good actress.”

In what she describes as a “deathbed confession,” a visibly ailing McCorvey restates her support for reproductive rights in colorful terms: “If a young woman wants to have an abortion, that’s no skin off my a**. That’s why they call it choice.”

Evangelicals and the right wing claim to be godly, yet so often they are breathtakingly corrupt.

over the course of their lives. It really doesn't matter. No one has the right to FORCE a woman to bear a child. Even had she honestly changed her own mind (decades later and having escaped the financial and physical hardship of being a parent), it's not HER decision to make about everyone else does. And her most recent opinion should not make any difference in anything from public policy to individual women's choices.

Fuck her and fuck everyone who paid her off. What a ridiculous, unethical, sexist, backwards country we STILL live in.

Kinda destroys the whole edifice that "pro-life" forces foisted on the American public. They bought her off. That's what they do, pay people to lie. The truth is obvious and not for sale. Well-crafted lies, that's where the money is.

So she could be bought. Gee. How nice for all the women she betrayed. The lives she messed up. You crawled into bed with the Devil, girlfriend. Nobody held a gun to your head and made you do it. You turned your back on a woman's right to decide what's best for her and for her own body.

What did they pay her? Thirty pieces of silver?

I know, I know. I'm supposed to be forgiving. I will try. And it'll be DAMN HARD.

The anti-abortion activists and their manipulation of McCorvey and their ready resorting to deceit and falsehood to advance their agenda.

I can understand opposition to abortion (although I stronglydisagree with the anti-abortion movement), but I find anti-abortion activists’ routine resorting to lying and falsehood to be repugnant. To me the means define the ends as much as the official agenda. These people are dishonest, deceitful liars, liars who have p’ed away what moral stature they profess to possess.

Norma McCorvey was obviously an abused and battered person. It’s sad that the people who are SUPPOSED to show the traits of Jesus (you know, like compassion and love) used her to further their cause.

I’m glad the truth is finally being shown. Evangelicals are not true Christians.

But my opinion is that if there's a hell, she's going. Ok, you're a Christian. Not only is there no scriptural denouncement of abortion, the Bible straight up supports abortion in several places. You took money to ruin lives, and make things harder for women. Im an atheist, but she claims she wasn't, so I hope there is a hell and her lying ass burns.

because being forced to endure pregnancy and childbirth against one's will is appalling and leaves deep, painful and lifelong scars. It also condemned her to poverty, and that's a hole few ever climb out of.

She took their dirty money and strung them along because she had to. Did she do any real damage? Not in my eyes, I knew she was a lesbian for a very long time and I never bought the conversion story. I knew somebody was paying her to say this bullshit.

So thank you Norma for finally setting the record straight and outing the Christian evangelical patriarchs as a pack of liars and cheats who will do anything to keep women in slavery.

Keep people poor so they are desperate and will work themselves to death at 3 minimum wage jobs to feed a kid they cannot handle and creates tremendous pressure on a woman not ready to have kids or never wanted them. . This removal of autonomy in women over thier own bodies creates slave conditions for her that rich people want to make other people suffer through. It's all about cheap or free labor.

The rich are doing class war.time to fuck thier shit up. Time to expose the churches for the frauds they are.
In everything.

shortly after that she had a complete turn around. I think she was mentally ill and taken advantage of. It seems like she didn't know herself what side she supported or even care at all.
