Man who recorded the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery has been arrested, GBI says
Source: CNN
William "Roddie" Bryan Jr., the man who recorded the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery in a neighborhood outside Brunswick, Georgia, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday. Bryan witnessed the deadly encounter between Travis McMichael and Arbery on February 23 from a vehicle behind a pickup that stopped in the road. Gregory McMichael, who was in the bed of the pickup during the shooting, told police that Bryan had tried to help them stop Arbery earlier, according to an incident report.
Kevin Gough, an attorney for Bryan, said Monday that Bryan had taken a polygraph test that confirmed he was not involved in the shooting.
Bryan was unarmed at the time of shooting and that Bryan did not have any conversation with Gregory or Travis McMichael before the shooting, Gough said, citing test results.
Bryan took the test voluntarily, said Gough, who referred to his client as the state's "star witness." The GBI, which is conducting the investigation into Arbery's death, said Bryan, 50, was arrested Thursday and will face charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
Bryan will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, where the McMichaels are being held on charges of murder and aggravated assault.

(8,311 posts)He wasn't a "witness", he was an active participant -- the one that chased him with a deadly weapon, his truck, into the armed roadblock his accomplices had set up.
If a black kid can get a felony murder conviction because he gave into peer pressure, committed a felony, but didn't hold a gun... a middle-aged white male who got peer-pressured into taking the law into his own hands can, too.

(56,996 posts)they were anticipating shooting someone. They thought the camera would "clear" them, all it did was work against them, it demonstrated prior planning and intent.
I imagine dad is trying to bargain to clear his son and the photographer will sink them and he'll get some time, too. The son looks like he'll fold like a cheap suit.
The big question is: how much time will a southern judge give a white ex-cop.

(2,191 posts)Used two cars to block off their victim, the video was a groovy memento that they provided to the police the day it happened, showing, he thought, that they were in the right.
They were on the phone to each other and carried out the chase down together.
Driving relatively slowly on the wrong side of the road on a blind curve...

Have to see how this shakes out.

(6,045 posts)I live in Georgia...Born & raised...Theyre not gonna get the death penalty. If the DA seeks it theyll never get 12 jurors to vote for it.
...I HOPE IM WRONG!!!! Even though Im against the death penalty I would like to be wrong simply for the fact it would mean things are changing.
...If that makes sense?
I dont think a white man has ever got the death penalty in Georgia or maybe anywhere in the South for killing a black man. If so, its extremely rare.

(38,187 posts)I wondered why he was getting away with taking part in that lynching. He was every bit a part of it as they were, even if he "only" filmed it. You know he filmed it so the sickos could watch it over again. I got their number. Living in Trump/redneckland has taught me what these fuckers are really like. I'm glad to see his ass arrested too.
