President Donald Trump demanded on Friday that states allow houses of worship to reopen from stay-at-home restrictions imposed to combat the coronavirus outbreak, yet his authority to override governors orders is restrained by constitutional limits.
The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now, Trump said Friday in a statement to reporters at the White House. For this weekend.
If they dont do it I will override the governors, he added.

Governors should tell him to fuck off.

(248 posts)Isn't the true purpose of going to church to worship God? And isn't God everywhere?
So what is the hulabaloo really all about? Could it possibly be money?

(12,712 posts)Jesus actually said it was nonessential, so the argument is not really valid.
Matthew 6:5
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward.
Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
It couldn't be clearer, but oh, it was just something ol' Jesus said, so maybe it doesn't count anymore.

(62,444 posts)That goes for Jehovah, Krishna (and all his woodland friends) and Buddha too.
My second favorite Buddha so far was the Big Buddha in Phuket. They built this Big Buddha up on a hill that you could see from some of the beaches, way up on the top of the highest hill you can see:
Well, I was out swimming and looking up and I didnt even know they had a Big Buddha. He was just looking out to sea like that, and I thought we just had to go see what things looked like from where he was.
So we drove up there along a windy hillside road - you just follow the signs from anywhere that say Big Buddha and have an arrow - and this was a little while before he was completely finished. So they also had a big reclining Buddha in a tent and there were something like 20 collection plates around him, and it was apparently really good luck and many blessings if you put a coin in each one. And they had monks that would give you a bag of 5 baht coins for a 100 baht note - although they had higher denominations which I gathered would get you even more luck. But, I figured that Id try the entry level, and if I ended up getting lucky, Id cut him in on a share of the proceeds. Sort of a win-win, Karma-wise.
I guess the luck has been okay so far. Id give it another go. Especially now they hes done...
But, anyways, like all gods, he likes money too.

(17,387 posts)It is all about the money. Our church, which has a large population of elderly, has made the decision not to open for safety reasons even though it is causing a hit to donations. However, there are a lot of "churches" that are all about living large and getting people to donate and "plant seeds" even when they are poor.

It sounds simple, absurdly so, but Coontz knows his audience extremely well. He broadcasts on Christian cable channels, often late into the night, drawing in viewers who lack financial literacy and are desperate for change.
"I understand the laws that govern insurance, stocks and bonds and all that is involved with Wall Street," he once said, looking directly into the camera. "God has called me as a financial deliverer."
Crucially, he always refers to the money as a "seed" - a $273 seed, a $333 seed, a "turnaround" seed, depending on the broadcast. If viewers "plant" one, the amount will come back to them, multiplied, he says. It is an investment in their faith and their future.

But it is not about the Constitution. Trump likes to do battle with the governors. That battle Trump thinks will make him look like a ..........."HERO"................but it wont...
A battle with like that makes him look ...FOREVER STUPID.. HERE IS WHY...
That is the state"s power not the federal government. Rules about closing churches and factories, are in the governors hands....especially for .."PUBLIC SAFETY''
Trump wants a battle because he needs one to distract from his previous stupidity and incompetence with the virus that has killed 90,000 people...That distraction for his base...will not work...But he thinks it will..He wants to fight the Constitution...He has already lost that one.

(28,859 posts)OK, if religious maniacs are willing for theIr false god to lead them to slaughter, I guess nobody can stop them. But its too bad that this death cult will also drag others over the Covid cliff with them. Its as though theyre living and breathing a murder-suicide pact with the golden calf they worship.

(225 posts)President pulls another stunt, since it's Friday. There is nothing in the constitution that gives him authority to favor religions over the law, which precludes the government from doing that.
