White woman fired after calling police on black man who asked her to leash her dog

Source: USA Today

A video of a woman in Central Park calling New York police on a black man who says he asked her to leash her dog has gone viral, and the woman has been fired from her job with Franklin Templeton.

The incident occurred Monday in the Ramble, a wooded area of Central Park where dogs are required to be on leashes.

Christian Cooper, who is black, said he was bird-watching in the area when he saw Amy Cooper, who is white, with her dog. Christian Cooper wrote on Facebook that the dog was going "through the plantings." He approached the woman and asked that she leash the animal, he said.

In the video, Amy Cooper refused and called 911, telling the operator that "there is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog." At one point, Cooper shouts to the operator, "Please send the cops immediately."

Consequences.

Let's hope her mortgage isn't too steep (Manhattan? HAHAHAHAHAHA) because she is going to have trouble getting another job right away.

Watching her in that video made my blood boil. I hope the police press charges for making a false report.

the HAHA was a reference to Manhattan housing costs, not to any desire on my part that she end up homeless, starving..........

She could have caused that man to be killed by the police. That's a pretty devastating possibility.

... if she'd gotten charges for 911 abuse (assuming she never went through with actually filing a police report).

And why did she deserve such charges?

Because she said, on tape, that she was going to get law enforcement to be her hitmen for her, all because she didn't want to leash her dog.

A white woman lying that a black man is threatening them in Central Park places not just that black man, but EVERY black man in Central Park, in danger of being shot. But she didn't care.

She played the only "race card" that matters -- that she was a "scared white woman". And she's damn lucky she just has job ruination, public humiliation, etc, instead of a death on her conscience (edit: and a potential felony murder conviction, if 911 abuse is a felony in NYC).

Tue May 26, 2020, 05:04 PM

https://www.new-york-lawyers.org/falsely-reporting-an-incident.html

and perhaps aggravated harassment:

A person is guilty of falsely reporting an incident in the third degree when, knowing the information reported, conveyed or circulated to be false or baseless, he or she:
...
3. Gratuitously reports to a law enforcement officer or agency (a) the alleged occurrence of an offense or incident which did not in fact occur; or (b) an allegedly impending occurrence of an offense or incident which in fact is not about to occur; or (c) false information relating to an actual offense or incident or to the alleged implication of some person therein

https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/240.50

While I can't see that there is an explicit "racially aggravated" version of falsely reporting, the company would certainly take that into account.
