Trump-appointed U.S. attorney in Texas abruptly resigns.
Source: PBS
A U.S. attorney in Texas who was appointed by President Donald Trump announced his resignation Tuesday, providing no explanation for his unusually abrupt departure.
Joseph Brown, who has served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas since 2018, will leave office on May 31, according to a statement.
The statement does not give a reason for the 50-year-old lead prosecutors departure except to say he will be pursuing opportunities in the private and public sectors and some of those will become apparent in the coming days. It also doesnt say who would lead the office in the interim; the sprawling jurisdiction stretches from the Dallas suburbs to Beaumont. Brown and a spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment.
Browns resignation comes two months after ProPublica reported that his office spent years pursuing a criminal case against Walmart for its opioid prescription practices, only to have it stymied after the retail giants lawyers appealed to senior officials in the Justice Department. The report describes an internal struggle over the potential prosecution that ended with high-ranking DOJ officials ordering Brown to stand down.

(24,282 posts)He did some favors for the right people and he's now set for life and doesn't need the crappy government job. Mission accomplished. Probably got some law firm to pay him one million dollars a year to put his name on their letterhead.

(24,282 posts)the scenario I supposed. They could both be true. Maybe what happened in that paragraph was a cover for what he did. Bottom line is I bet he lands on his feet making more money than he was.

(12,620 posts)to land on his feet. And yes, hell make more money in private practice than in government work. What else is new.

(8,036 posts)for telling Brown to stand down. Can't get in the way of Walmart progress in pushing opioids now, can we? Walmart knew all about the opioids.
