Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on Friday afternoon decried President Donald Trumps bellicose tweets about the ongoing protests in Minneapolis, in which Trump threatened when the looting starts, the shooting starts.
During a press briefing in St. Paul, Walz confirmed that he had spoken to Trump on Thursday night to discuss the protests, as the President mentioned in one of his tweets.
I didnt know he was going to tweet, the governor told reporters. Its just not helpful. Its not helpful.
Walz said that Trumps tweets threatening to sic the military on the protesters and invoking violent rhetoric only serve to further exacerbate the situation, which was brought about by the death of George Floyd, a black man who was killed by law enforcement.

In the early hours of Friday, Trump ranted about THUGS protesting in Minneapolis and announced that hed told Walz that the military is with him all the way.
Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts, he tweeted.
Twitter flagged the tweet for violating the platforms rules about glorifying violence, causing Trump to throw a tantrum.

(9,426 posts)government offices, armed to the teeth, why were THEY not called "thugs"? They were very threatening, armed with military type weapons, because of the shutdown. Why no rubber bullets, and tear gas then? Different rules for different races, I guess. tRump does not know HOW to be helpful, not in any situation, unless it affects HIM. He needs to be reminded that he is not the president of wealthy white people, but of ALL people (unfortunately for us). He should recognize "thugs" since he has an abundance of them in his administration. Not competent, intelligent people, THUGS.

(2,957 posts)It's the way a coward criticizes. This how lame-ass Republicans criticize Trump. "Not helpful" is really softball.
Get with it and call 'em like you see 'em: The president is inciting violence and domestic unrest.

(496 posts)When you quote a renowned racist, adulterer, segregationist, and white supremacist, many of us don't have to ask...but for those that do:
Where does the phrase 'When the looting starts, the shooting starts' come from?
Twitter said early Friday that a post by President Donald Trump about the protests overnight in Minneapolis glorified violence because of the historical context of his last line: "When the looting starts, the shooting starts."
The phrase was used both by Miami's police chief, Walter Headley, in 1967, and by presidential candidate and segregationist George Wallace the following year.
