Curfews ordered for Minneapolis, St. Paul starting 8 p.m. Friday
Source: Star Tribune
The cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul are imposing a curfew starting 8 p.m. Friday, their mayors declared Friday.
That Minneapolis curfew will last until 6 a.m. Saturday, and then go into effect again at 8 p.m. Saturday, expiring 6 a.m. Sunday.
"During the curfew, all persons must not travel on any public street or in any public place," according to Mayor Jacob Frey's resolution.
The Minneapolis curfew does not respond to emergency services, law enforcement, people seeking "exempt care" and the homeless.

(47,479 posts)Or, at least, should have had the National Guard and State troopers cordoning the area the way they have done it today.
As Ali Velshi reported last evening - at great peril to himself - and now, as opposed to last night there was no sign of any authority, including fire department.

(115,686 posts)that took me north on Lyndale as far as 26th St., and I saw many business' windows and doors boarded up, especially around the Lake-Lyndale intersection but as far south as the NAPA shop on 36th. I didn't think there had been so much damage in that area, then I realized that they were boarding up pre-emptively. Somebody made a killing on plywood today.

(24,929 posts)I don't think anything was looted after the first night. I just drove around and lots of businesses are boarded up, but I think that just preventative.

(14,490 posts)After watching lots of news coverage from MN on Thursday, I suspect few believed the protests would spiral out of control, perhaps due to public concern over COVID-19. Clearly not the case as protester convictions outweighed health concerns.
I understand you must have adequate manpower to execute an effective curfew and this one will require far more officers than available police can provide, hence the delay until the National Guard could mobilize and get on the ground.
