President Donald Trump announced Saturday he is postponing the G-7 summit until September and plans to invite four additional non-member nations including Russia.

The president, speaking to reporters aboard an Air Force One flight back to Washington from Kennedy Space Center, said he plans to expand the annual meeting of the world's most economically advanced nations to include Australia, India, Russia and South Korea, according to a pool report.

He'll probably use space required by the additional invitations as an excuse to move the event back to the Doral. In addition to adding to the cash flow of a failing property, he can justify spending taxpayer money to completely upgrade the resort -- new carpet, new paint, new furniture and beds for the suites, new silverware (with his name and the presidential seal on each piece) and China place settings (design matches the silverware), redo the grounds, including ripping up existing foliage and replacing it with news plants. He might not charge for the use of the facility, but he'll get tens of millions of dollars in upgrades.

I thought the G-7 was a group of countries that joined together to pursue common economic goals. Like most groups, they have rules about who are to be admitted to the club. Russia hadn't demonstrated its willingness to play by the rules, and was kicked out, which has annoyed Trump to no end.

What gives him the right to decide unilaterally who's in the group? Or is he playing autocrat again? Clearly inviting Australia, India and South Korea is just cover for sneaking Russia in through the back door. Once Putin's got a seat at the table again he can continue to wreak economic chaos on the West.
