Carmel Mayor Brainard backs off plan to sue Minneapolis over costs associated with riots

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said Monday night he is putting on hold plans to pursue a lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis.

Earlier Monday Brainard said Carmel had retained outside legal counsel to pursue a negligence claim against the Minneapolis Police Department. Brainard pointed to the costs Carmel and other cities have sustained of responding to the resulting riots and looting following protests over officer-involved killings of black men and women.

"My intent was to send a message that their negligence cost many lives and millions in property damage across the country," Brainard said in a statement. "America has a long history of correcting behavior though the legal system and I felt this would be another opportunity to do so."

Brainard said the idea was not about bringing further harm to the people of Minneapolis.

His idea of holding another city accountable is not a good one.

If he's so concerned about the provoking of his citizens then he ought to tell Donald to shut up. IOW, to stop stirring the pot.
