Gov. Ricketts apologizes after calling black leaders in meeting 'you people'

Source: Omaha World Herald

BY Jeffrey Robb

A black pastor at a North Omaha Baptist church says he walked out of a Monday meeting with city leaders and Gov. Pete Ricketts after the governor told black leaders, “The problem I have with you people.”

Ricketts, in a statement, said he apologized: “I chose my words poorly, and apologized when it became apparent that I had caused offense.”

In a video he posted online, Pastor Jarrod Parker of St. Mark Baptist Church said he was invited to the meeting with Ricketts, Mayor Jean Stothert and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, along with black pastors and black leaders.

The group discussed the killing of James Scurlock, and Parker said he “put context to the issues surrounding the systematic racism that produced it.”

This is not a priority....I understand...but when do we try to start negotiating and healing? How are we to evolve if we can't look beyond the stupid ..and the Council is ignorant...but we need to focus on our mission....stop the brutality...as unpleasant as they are .we need to work with them on some level.

When someone instinctively uses the term "you people," there really is no level on which you can work with them on this issue.

I just think that battle can be revisited another day ..Yes, it is demeaning and falls back to good olde boys thinking...

Let me say this ..more courage to save the hurt feelings and target issues that will address the police violence....We already know that the GOP in general is arrogant...I do believe we can work for our mission in light of the ignorant...

Hiding from these issues and ignoring them in favor of only that which we allege is effective lacks that very same courage you refer to.

And while no doubt there are many people who are able to juggle one conflict or concern at a time, but these same, limited individuals should not project that constraints onto everyone else.

The racist and homophobic bar owner that shot and killed a protester in Omaha is a big Trumpster of course.

Joe Ricketts his daddy has some race issues too. I guess Pete inherited that just like he did all of his money.

Peace

only apologized after he was caught. Typical republican who has no sense of compassion for others.
