George W. Bush calls out racial injustices and celebrates protesters who 'march for a better future'
Source: The Washington Post
Former president George W. Bush addressed the nationwide protests in a statement Tuesday, commending the Americans demonstrating against racial injustice and criticizing those who try to silence them.
It is a strength when protesters, protected by responsible law enforcement, march for a better future, Bush said.
Describing himself as anguished by the death of George Floyd, who died more than a week ago after being suffocated under the knee of a white police officer, urged white Americans to seek ways to support, listen and understand black Americans who still face disturbing bigotry and exploitation.
[...]
The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving, Bush said. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America or how it becomes a better place.

Oh, NOW Bush supports protesters? NOW Bush cares about people who are "hurting and grieving"? Where was he when Guantanamo was eliciting false confessions?

(6,150 posts)I think the process started in his second term but really didn't fully take hold in him for years after his presidency ended. You could see a change in him near the end of his second term.
He seemed to have a haunted look about himself. I think he began to realize how badly he was used by people like Cheney, and how big a mess he had made of things.
It was evident that he aged quite a bit more in his presidency than the 8 years he was in office.
It's too bad. By the time he left the White House he was close to where you would want a first term president to be on assuming the office.
I always felt "W" was too small for the job; still a college frat boy; looking like a deer in the headlights at times. It seemed that he never was fully aware of the immensity of his position.
I think that weighed heavily on him when he looked back at those 8 years.
He seems to be quite a different person now.
Unfortunately the person he was back then was totally incompetent, and easily lead.
The country suffered for it.

That said, these are desperate times. Ill take any additional pressure we can get on Trump and current Republican leadership.
Doesnt mean Bush gets a pass for what he did though.

I wish W would come out and admit that he got played on Iraq & that it was a stupid mistake. Although that may seem like an insult to all those who were killed in the war. But i bet its how he feels. I've never seen a former Pres & VP NEVER be together for some occasions after leaving office

New GOP group launches $10 million campaign to get Republicans to vote for Biden over Trump
SNIP
A new project to encourage Republicans to support former Vice President Joe Biden over President Donald Trump has launched a $10 million ad campaign targeting GOP-leaning voters in top swing states.
The initiative, called Republican Voters Against Trump, has produced multiple ads featuring disaffected GOP voters who say they are not voting for Trump. Many of these testimonials are recorded on smartphones and include voters who have voted for Republican candidates, some of whom voted for Trump in 2016.
"I voted for Donald Trump in 2016, but I won't vote for him again," says Jay, a Pennsylvania voter who recorded one of nearly 100 videos featured on the project's website. Some of the testimonials will be featured in the ads.

Juan Williams: Bush could strike blow for Biden
Snip
But imagine if former President Bush, as Trump's most recent Republican predecessor, backed a Democrat. Bush's voice has the singular power to reach moderate Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters, freeing them to walk away from the Party of Trump.
The split between Bush and Trump got attention earlier this month when Trump lashed out at the 43rd president for issuing a simple call for national unity in fighting the coronavirus.
Trump attacked Bush on Twitter saying: "He was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax [impeachment] in American history."
But Bush's statement never mentioned Trump.
Snip
In a 2017 speech, Bush seemed to be rebuking the current president for allowing national politics to become "degraded by casual cruelty ... argument turns too easily into animosity." He avoided directly calling out Trump by name.
Bush has also spoken up for longstanding Republican beliefs now under fire from the current administration.
He said in that same 2017 speech that free trade around the world is key to finding new markets for U.S. goods, as well as maintaining "an international order rooted in freedom and free markets."
Possibly? We need to insure the Electoral College Vote as well as the majority of the people's votes.

Trump needs ALL his original voters
And ANYONE who doesnt like trump needs to vote Biden no matter WHO he picks as his VP
