Woman in Racial Central Park Confrontation Gets Her Dog Back
Source: WNBC (NBC4 New York)
The animal rescue group that took in the dog of a white woman who was captured on video phoning the NYPD and falsely accusing a black man who was birdwatching of threatening her in Central Park will return the dog to her.
In a Facebook post, Abandoned Angels said the decision was made after a veterinarian determined Amy Coopers dog was in good health and after New York City law enforcement authorities refused to take the dog into their custody.
"Abandoned Angels would like to express its gratitude for the outpouring of support regarding the dog that was recently placed in our custody, following release of a troubling video that was brought to our attention. The dog was promptly evaluated by our veterinarian, who found that he was in good health. We have coordinated with the appropriate New York City law enforcement agencies, which have declined to examine the dog or take it into their custody. Accordingly, and consistent with input received from law enforcement, we have now complied with the owner's request for return of the dog," Abandoned Angels post reads.

(8,052 posts)She treated him like an accessory that she forgot was there, not a living thing. She doesn't deserve him back. I wouldn't trust her with a goldfish.

(9,426 posts)She could have easily put the leash on him, instead of choking the poor little guy. He NEVER should have been returned to this cruel woman.

(794 posts)Strange. Several reports of talks with her friends said she no longer wanted the dog--"a nuisance"--so she was happy to give it away.
I do wonder what she does every day after losing her $170,000/per year + bonuses. Get up in the morning, walk out to Starbucks, come home to read the newspapers, and all the Internet accounts of her viciousness?
Working on her resume is hopeless. She will never get a job again in Manhattan. Even if some rich CEO condones her behavior, no corporation will risk the the avalanche of backlash.
NewYorkers love Central Park, and they have no sympathy for destroying spring plantings by dogs or humans.
It is curious to see what will become of her.

(3,332 posts)and I saw that the dog was in distress without its owner, and the owner promised to get counseling, I would have an open mind.
I'm surprised, because she was choking that dog. But there could be extenuating circumstances, evidence that she was taking good care of the dog - like she was paying people to walk the dog when she couldn't.

(51,582 posts)Doubt it. I dog is as defenseless and innocent as a child. Abuse is abuse. That animal shelter fucked up big time! That woman should never be allowed to have a pet again. She has too many real problems that she should deal with in this lifetime. I was a volunteer at a shelter and we NEVER would have returned the abused animal to the abuser.

No one should drag a dog around like that.

(309 posts)That dog was clearly abused. Who cares if there wasnt any long term physical damage? What about the psychological damage of his trusted human turning on him and waving him around like a rag doll by the collar. Ive been around Cockers all my life and watching footage really cut. This rescue has failed.

(13,033 posts)When my small yorkie was attacked by other dogs several months ago, i quickly lifted her by the leash onto my arms to protect her. Mind you it's the leash harness which went around her front shoulders, not a collar, so she was not gasping for air during that very brief moment and was fine. In this case the poor dog was hanging alot of the time when this crazy lady held on to it, looking as if it was choking & gasping for air. That is pet abuse. The pound should have not released the dog to her.
