Seattle council member Kshama Sawant calls on Mayor Durkan to resign

Source: KOMO-TV

SEATTLE - City Councilmember Kshama Sawant called on Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan to resign Saturday, accusing her of abuse of power and failing the working people of Seattle as protests continue over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.

"Jenny Durkan has failed the working people of Seattle since day one of her administration," Sawant said in a prepared statement. "She has now abused her power, and harmed thousands of ordinary people on the streets - all in defense of big business and the status quo of racism and inequality.”

Sawant said Durkan has "repeatedly unleashed Seattle police to use ever-escalating violence against ordinary people" who have come out to protest the police killings of George Floyd and other minority citizens.

Mayor Durken is in fact the ONLY Mayor in the US who's met with the protest organizers to try and resolve the problem.

Mayor Durkin needs to resign. She has deployed chemical weapons against unarmed, innocent civilians.
Weapons not usable in war. Weapons that would be a violation of the Geneva Protocols of 1925.
She is little more than a war criminal.

SEATTLE — Officials with the Seattle Police Department say several officers were injured during a clash with protesters outside the East Precinct in Capitol Hill Saturday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., police said demonstrators began moving barricades set up near 11th and Pine.

on top of that, is there independent verification of these "improvised explosives"? Police departments have been demonstrated to lie about what's happening during demonstrations, why should we believe them now?

9. You can see and watch the TV video for yourself. You can hear the people in the crowd cheering

when the bangs happen, and then the police say if people throw things at them they are authorized to defend themselves.

Did you watch it?

And here is another source.

Eyewitnesses also reported explosions at the intersection. In these videos, captured by Jake Goldstein-Street, several small explosions near crowds of protesters can be seen and heard. The source of the explosions is not clear. Demonstrators can also be seen facing off with cordons of police across barricades, as well as chanting “George Floyd” as they march through the streets.

The Seattle protests were the latest in a series of large-scale demonstrations that took place in cities across the US following the police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25.

Authorities in Seattle banned the use of tear gas during the protest. Local reports said police used an OC, or pepper spray, canister in at least one June 6 confrontation. Credit: Jake Goldstein-Street

them back at the police.

Would you say the crowd has the right to defend itself against the police if they are shown to be the aggressors? As has been the case in many of these police riots?

And the pictures of the candles was a nice touch.

11. You're just speculating. But if the police threw them first and are shown to be the aggressors

that would be different.

Not a reason for the Mayor to resign, however. Reason for an investigation, which they should do anyway.

The days of taking the police's word are largely over, its not like they are good actors in this, and that includes entire departments.

Mayor Durken is in fact the ONLY Mayor in the US who's met with the protest organizers to try and resolve the problem.

NE Indiana mayor Tom Henry and police chief Steve Reed marched with the protesters on Thursday in Fort Wayne. I think Joe Hogsett, mayor of Indianapolis, did the same thing.

I would imagine mayors are meeting with a lot of the protest organizers.

Are blaming the protesters.

The mayor of Buffalo is blaming the 75 yr old man for the police shoving him to the ground.

The SPD is blaming the protesters for violence they started.

In NYC there are dozens of accounts of the NYPD, a long account from Ali Velshi on Twitter:
