What he has done here however, is good.
Is he still a problem politically for the rest of us, yes. But I will take the win here.
This is what we want, this is what we need to happen.

(5,801 posts)he's currently scheming behind closed doors to accomplish the puke dream of destroying Social Security -- see the laughably named "TRUST Act." They are gonna try to get it through before red don (and possibly the puke majority in the Senate) get booted out.

(26,289 posts)I do not see them wavering as they would be cutting their own throats if they agreed to rolling grandma off a cliff.

(5,801 posts)but is there any form of legislative sleight-of-hand, executive order etc. they could employ to get their scheme enacted? Romney's scam would enable cuts to be fast-tracked so in future there would be less chance to oppose sequential destruction. I just know how desperate the puke sociopaths are to gut SS and Medicare and how devious they are, and a few Senate Dems to their shame are going along...

(26,289 posts)via legislation will again have to be approved by the House as well which still has a Democratic majority.
Now if I was Pelosi and I really wanted to pull a sleight of hand trick on the Republicans as payback I would offer them a deal of letting them pass a bill to suspend the ACA for a 5 year period as a test.
Here me out, the trick is that it Pelosi will agree to let it pass but it will be without any Democrats taking part but only if the Republicans can get atleast 50% of their people to vote to do it.
Either way the Republicans would be shooting themselves in the foot with the voters before election because they campaigned for years on nullifying the ACA so if they vote yes to rolling grandma off a cliff they hurt themselves and if they vote no they hurt themselves but either way its a win win for the Democrats.

(552 posts)Romney may be doing the right thing now, but I do not trust him. My belief is that he is doing this in order to place himself in a position to run for president is Trump finally pulls out or loses too much republican support. He is not doing this because he is a good person.

He is also on board with cutting Social Security and Medicare.

(2,870 posts)about his image, his dad, his country, one might impute.
His hatred of trump should run as deep as ours, unless you've been personally taken to lunch only for the sake of being insulted by the pig excretion posing as president.
I can see it more as a statesman-like late-in-life gesture of a middle of the road guy who sees the rot and evil of someone to his right. Someday we'll need guys like that.
Naive? My kids tell me there's no r conspiracy too far-fetched to get my nod of approval, but I see Romney as an old-school guy who might someday reach across the aisle, making him a better prospect than anybody else in the Senate with an r attached to their name.

(70 posts)This would mean a lot more if:
1) his statement of 'not seeking recognition' weren't completely undermined by this being a SELFIE;
2) he wasn't already leading the charge in the Senate to completely disembowel Social Security and similiar programs to help 'balance the budget' - on the backs of the same people he claims 'matter';
3) he didn't already vote for nearly everything else Dump has promoted the past 3+ years save for only *part* of impeachment - including the double-fatcat tax cut (once overtly, the second time in the stimulus bill) that CREATED the fiscal crisis in the first place and like every other time, never 'paid for itself';
in other words, actions speak louder than selfies, Rom-Nuts!

(9,117 posts)I will say that he shows a lot more guts than his cowering Republican senatorial colleagues who are either making themselves or, in one or two cases, clutching their pearls.
That still doesn't mean I'll vote for him. I still remember his 47% comment, his drift to the right, and his business career as a vulture capitalist, but I will give him for showing political bravery that his colleagues lack.
