NYPD cop who shoved protester hit with criminal charges
Source: Politico
NEW YORK An NYPD officer seen on video shoving a young woman to the ground during a Brooklyn police brutality protest has been hit with criminal charges, the Brooklyn district attorney announced Tuesday.
The officer, Vincent DAndraia, is charged with criminal mischief, harassment and menacing, said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. Video shows the officer forcefully shove the young woman during a May 29 protest over the killing of George Floyd. She struck the pavement and went to the emergency room.
I fully support the long-held American tradition of non-violent protest. As District Attorney I cannot tolerate the use of excessive force against anyone exercising this Constitutionally guaranteed right. This is especially true of those who are sworn to protect us and uphold the law, Gonzalez said. I am deeply troubled by this unnecessary assault. We will now seek to hold this defendant accountable.
The cop is one of two officers who have been suspended without pay from the NYPD for their actions at protests. The other suspended officer was seen pulling down a protesters mask to pepper spray him.

(789 posts)This is a departure. Usually bad cops are suspended with pay, which means they have no work to do, can sleep late, they get their pay checks and pension contributions like usual. This is what we call a paid vacation. Suspended with pay, fly to Hawaii, no penalty for the bad behavior.

(343 posts)The police can't seem to wrap their heads around this. The thin blue thugs among them seem to think the only response to a Constitutionally protected act in the United States is to behave like unhinged bouncers reacting in a bar fight. Stop hiring these imbecilic bullies who can't control themselves, and certainly have no knowledge of or respect for the Constitution.
