A Top Trump Adviser Says The U.S. Suffers No 'Systemic Racism'

Source: Bloomberg News

By Misyrlena Egkolfopoulou and Justin Sink 8 hrs ago.

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump's top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, said Wednesday that he doesn't regard "systemic racism" as a problem in the U.S.

"I don't believe nowadays we have systemic racism," Kudlow told reporters at the White House. The White House is under pressure to address civil unrest over the death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis police custody last month. Protesters in cities nationwide have accused police of systematic brutality against people of color and have demanded wide-ranging reforms.

Kudlow, who is white, said the White House is "looking at" an executive order on the matter. "We're studying possible reforms," he said. Kudlow attributed high-profile cases of police brutality to some "very bad apples" and touted the Trump administration's record setting up tax-advantaged "Opportunity Zones" in low-income neighborhoods and providing funding to historically black colleges and universities.

He said that he had fought for civil rights, and pointed to conservative columnist Heather MacDonald, who wrote in the Wall Street Journal earlier this month that studies show "no structural bias in the criminal-justice system with regard to arrests, prosecution or sentencing."

The White House earlier said that Trump will "discuss solutions to historic economic, health and justice disparities in American communities" at a roundtable event in Dallas on Thursday before a fundraiser. -END.

But we need to understand where this priviledged white man comes from.

“As of the census of 2010,[47] there were 9,158 people, 3,470 households, and 2,593 families residing in the town. Redding has the third lowest population density in Fairfield County[48] at 285.3 people per square mile (110.2/km²). Between 2000 and 2010, Redding's population increased 10.7%.[49]

There were 3,811 housing units as of 2010, up 23.5% from a decade earlier, for an average density of 118.7 units per square mile (45.8/km²).[50]

The racial makeup of the town as of 2010 was 94.90% White, 0.70% African American, 0.10% Native American, 2.20% Asian, 2.10% from other races or from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.60% of the population.

The median income for a household in 2000 was $104,137, and the median income for a family was $109,250. In 2009, the median family income rose to $141,609.[51] Males had a median income of $77,882 versus $52,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $50,687. About 1.2% of families and 1.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.1% of those under age 18 and 3.5% of those age 65 or over.”

“President Donald Trump's top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, has revealed that his wife has had an easy time applying through the small business loan program to help keep her art business afloat amid the coronavirus crisis, despite others reporting big problems.

“My wife Judy… she is a self-employed artist-painter, very distinguished one, some renowned, she could use some help for her operation,” Kudlow said during an interview with POLITICO last week.

Kudlow, whose personal assets are valued at a maximum net worth of $2 million according to a 2018 Bloomberg report, touted how simple it was for his wife to take out a loan for her business under the Small Business Administration loan program.

'She went to a local, community bank up by our place in Connecticut and apparently it's just a one-page form, that's all it is. It couldn't be easier,' Kudlow said.”

He's right there with Big Dummy in business acumen, it just looks like he didn't inherit as big an empire and if he did inherit, he managed to piss it away along with his income as a TV blowhard.

The big ongoing scandal in the semi rural county I lived in for a while in Mass. was the SBA loan program. Same damned guy walked away with every dime, year after year, a filthy rich real estate developer with a permanent staff low enough so he could qualify on paper. Meanwhile, he was snapping up farms and putting up ticky tacky exurbs all over the place, just contracting the labor out. I would imagine Redding's SBA is just as crooked.

So color me unsurprised that somebody married to an official in Big Dummy's administration walked away with money she didn't really need, taking it from people who did.

Still, for somebody with his history, that net worth is pretty pathetic.

As a white lady who is a senior citizen, even *I* can tell there is plenty of systemic racism, even if I rarely encounter it and I am never affected by it.
