CNN’s Tapper scorches Trump for wanting to keep names of Confederate ‘dead racist losers’ on military bases

Noting the president’s battle with current military leaders over the past two weeks, Tapper noted that the president seems to have an affinity for those who committed treason against the country in the past.

“The president and his supporters have had plenty of nasty things to say about these men who served our country, no need to report them, you have access to Twitter,” the CNN host began. “There is one group of generals the president is, however, standing firm with: dead, racist losers, the Confederate commanders. They want to begin a bipartisan conversation about renaming these ten bases but the president shut it down — he wants to continue to honor them.”

“Four of these forts were named in the 1910s, six were named in the 1940s,” he continued. “These bases were not named after the Civil War and an attempt at national reconciliation, they were named in the 20th century as a way of honoring the racist lost cause that the generals fought. The keyword in that phrase: lost. They lost and rightfully so, their cause was immoral.”.....................................

All of this stuff - the monuments to Confederates, the Confederate flag, the naming of the military bases - was done in the early 1900’s up to the 1940’s, then revived in the mid 50’s in the wake of the civil rights movement. The United Daughters of the Confederacy, the original Karens, were responsible for most of the monuments, in an effort to rewrite history and intimidate African Americans in the Jim Crow era.

At least none of the US bases I was stationed at were named after traitors. Always thought it was a bit weird we had/have bases named for them anyway. A travesty imo.

Another real cause of ..... concern I guess you could say ... to me was and IS to this day the fact that a huge proportion of our military bases are below the mason dixon line. Mainly the combat arms ones too. Just think about it for a minute.

for confederate leaders was the racist pushback every time there was an attempt at establishing civil rights for minorities. It really got bad in the 60's. Every city in the south got a Robert E Lee high school and a Jefferson Davis hospital.

That was the year the school was integrated. Each of the three black students had two deputy sheriffs escort them from class to class. All of the protesters outside (waving Confederate flags, naturally) were from out of state.

The key word is "treasonous traitor". These fuckwads fought AGAINST the Union Army. They were responsible for hundreds of thousands of American deaths and a nation of destruction.

Are you kidding me? Because they lost, we shouldn't honor them? Seriously. Think again.
