U.S. needs to stop being offended about everything, Ben Carson says

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Politico

Amid ongoing demonstrations against racism, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said America needs to stop being offended about everything and “grow up.”

On ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, Carson was asked if it was appropriate for President Donald Trump to give his convention speech on Aug. 27 in Jacksonville. That date is the 60th anniversary of “Ax Handle Saturday,” when a white mob organized by the Ku Klux Klan attacked mostly black civil rights protesters in the Florida city.

“We’ve reached a point in our society where we dissect everything and try to ascribe some nefarious notion to it,” replied Carson, the only black member of Trump’s Cabinet. “We need to move away from being offended by everything, of going through history and looking at everything, you know, of renaming everything.”
He continued, “Some of our prestigious universities, have a relationship with the slave trade. Should we go and rename those universities? It really gets to a point of being ridiculous after a while. And, you know, we’re going to have to grow up as a society."

complaining dont realize that they themselves are COMPLAINING. Cant count the number of times on our local Nextdoor we're having what seems to me to be a spirited discussion on some neighborhood issue, and invariably some complainer comes along to complain about it, like we shouldnt be having the conversation at all.

Welcome to democracy Ben. We all get to complain and discuss everything and anything .... and maybe eventually find a solution...

except for the fact that his boss has made his entire political career out of offending people. Most of his followers love it. Make fun of someone with a disability--hilarious! Insult a woman's looks when she's trying to function as a leader and politician--you tell 'er, Trump!

And Trump needs to grow up more than any other player on the modern historical scene. His emotional intelligence is lacking and he regularly engages in essentially infantile behavior.

Except, the ones that come to mind are people who: arm themselves and go charging into state capitals screaming about needing a haircut, or round up their armed buddies and terrorize a town looking for buses filled with 'antifa', an action that will surely lead to innocent, unnecessary death very soon, say how fake everything is, complain the Democrats "won't let them" do what they want, go grab their gun and shoot someone who has the nerve to ask them to wear a mask when entering a building to keep them from spreading their nasty Republican germs, say the media is the enemy of the people, think a guy who can't even read past 2nd grade level and sounds like he's ADHD can somehow be a genius, an expert at everything, smarter than the generals, doctors and scientists, and the best president ever.
