The flying public is more concerned now than during the height of the lockdown. Extremely bad news for airlines and also states that rely on tourism as a hefty part of their growth. Unemployment numbers will be ugly for a long time.

2. the plummet happened during lockdown

so 'slides' is still plummeting??? or cratering down from plummeting. it's just bad getting worse.

season and they are still on skeleton crew.

4. Who doesn't want to sit in a pressurized germ tube with 100 other people for 3 hours?

It was bad enough before COVID. My family always had to take an extra two or three days after vacations to allow someone to recover from an illness that they would inevitably pick up on the trip.

8. With plenty of air circulation

to ensure uniform distribution of virus throughout the plane. I am thankful that my work doesn't require air travel.

14. I've gotten sick every time I've flown in recent years.

Largely it's stress from the constantly escalating bullshit that airlines impose on passengers. Partly it's the physically hostile environment of the airplane cabin. Partly probably the concentrated pathogen load.

5. I guess I'm in an information bubble

because what I see is a ton of people not wearing masks and "dying" to go out to eat, attend crowded events, etc.

Why aren't all these people making airline flights as they normally would?

10. That's an excellent point

seems like the crowded public venues are somewhat of a show to rail against those liberals! but a personal risk for Cvd19 where no one will see like an airplane ride is a no go. Trump supporters are spinning like a gig!

12. There's a perception

that eating at a restaurant, especially outside, is safer than being crammed on to a commercial aircraft, especially in coach. I can understand that. I'm absolutely not going to fly until a vaccine has been widely distributed.

6. Why take the risk?...the mods to planes that airlines are proposing aren't nearly enough

Until you get:

1. Everyone wearing a mask everywhere in public
2. Spacing on the plane that is at least 6 feet between passengers in any direction-- those dumb little side of seat shields they are proposing are a joke as is just skipping the middle seat.
3. Medical grade air filtration or really complete 100% exhaust and replacement with fresh outside air
4. Universal and regular testing of everyone so there is less and less chance the person getting on the plane with you is not an asymptomatic carrier.

You would be crazy to get on a plane now if you didn't have to. My son is an easy 1.5 hour flight away and just bought a house that I would love to go see and congratulate him on in person. I can drive it in 12 hours and that is going to be the way I do it when I think its safer for even doing that.

29. All the passengers wore masks during the flights, from what I could tell

Some were being maskless dickheads while waiting in the boarding area, but they put them on when getting on the flights.

It was the typical mad scramble getting off the planes, with people crowding the aisles as normal.

32. I believe they are

I did see the gate agents kick one guy off a flight, but he was being an asshole about not wanting to check his oversized carryon (for free!) that was too big for the overhead.

Maybe he was bringin' in a couple of keys...

33. ha

I remember a virtual coworker moaning about an airline that refused to let him board with six laptops, he said, can you believe that? I told him I could not believe he didn't check with the airline ahead of time that he needed to bring those laptops on board (something about not letting them out of his sight).

11. I contracted the flu on a United flight, three years ago,

almost died from it. Now I never miss a flu shot.
Also, flying is torture these days, long lines at security checkpoints, fees for everything, tiny seats.
Flight crews are still the best people, I don't know how they can go to work every day in those cramped things.

27. Yeah I know it sucks.

I mean I want to travel, I had two trips booked this year that I had to cancel, and I also had a third planned to visit my cousin in New Hampshire that got put on hold. I also want to go visit my relatives in Arizona but can't do that for the foreseeable future.

I know some people don't have a choice for traveling and it really sucks. So yeah I do feel for you. But as for current travel I will refrain from traveling by air so until there's a vaccine widely available, or the virus peters out and becomes nothing and taking road trips like to Arizona and up north to places like Sacramento and Portland for the time being.
