Trump signs executive order on police reform

Source: AP

By JILL COLVIN, LISA MASCARO and ZEKE MILLER

WASHINGTON (AP) — Following weeks of national protests since the death of George Floyd, President Donald Trump signed an executive order on policing Tuesday that he said would encourage better police practices and establish a database to keep track of officers with a history of excessive use-of-force complaints.

In Rose Garden remarks, Trump stressed the need for higher standards and commiserated with mourning families, even as he hailed the vast majority of officers as selfless public servants and held his law-and-order line, while criticizing Democrats.

“Reducing crime and raising standards are not opposite goals,” he said before signing the order flanked by police.

Trump and the GOP have been rushing to respond to the mass demonstrations against police brutality and racial prejudice that have raged for weeks across the country in response to the deaths of Floyd and other black Americans. It’s a sudden shift for the Republican Party — and one Democrats are watching warily — that shows how quickly the protests have changed the political conversation and pressured Washington to act.

He is the weakest president ever. He also said he is going to increase funding for police. So he is just insane and giving more money, rather than solving the problem. He pandered to the unions and left the people out in the cold.

And Don-Don's all about appearances! ("Look, look! I signed! This! Leadership! Best!" ) He's just increasingly bad at them.

His heritage is one of an immigrant kicked out of Germany because he was so sleazy, followed with stints as brothel owners and racist housing developments and mob ties. I don't think most of the country has any interest in your "heritage", Herr Drumpf

Goatee is different and face is wider. Also the hat is different, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

That quote certainly makes it sound like he was still going despite the positive test.

As the rest of Arizona followed a stay-at-home order imposed by the governor in May, Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb proclaimed that the state’s attempt to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus was unconstitutional.

“The numbers don’t justify the actions anymore,” the defiant Republican sheriff told the Arizona Republic at the time, vowing not to arrest people or shut down businesses that violated the order. “Three hundred deaths is not a significant enough number to continue to ruin the economy.”

On Wednesday, less than two months after publicly challenging the state’s efforts to slow the spread of a virus that has now spiked in Arizona, Lamb announced he had tested positive for the coronavirus before a scheduled meeting with President Trump.
