Multiple airlines dropping alcohol on flights

Source: The Hill

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 06/16/20 07:53 PM EDT

Several major airlines are moving to end or temporarily suspend some alcoholic beverage services in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

CNN reported that several European airlines as well as Delta and American Airlines are moving to cut back on service of alcoholic beverages. Both Delta and American have ended beverage services on domestic flights, while some international flights may see services restricted as well.

"We’re limiting food and drink service on board based on flight length and destination. You’re welcome to bring snacks and soft drinks to enjoy during your flight," reads a note on American Airlines's website.

Delta pointed to the possibility of spreading coronavirus as a reason for altered food and beverage services in its own statement.

Once past the security zones, sell packaged beer and wine (within limits) to take aboard the plane.

In the 90’s I would bring a six pack of bud cans in carryon. Would buy one can of bud and replace it 6 times with my stash. Helped me fall asleep on the redeyes.

I was wondering about this (haven't flown since December myself, and I don't plan to anytime soon), but I do enjoy a couple of gin & tonics once in the air. But you have to take off a mask to eat and drink, and it probably endangers the flight attendants, so it makes sense.

I don't really see how they can have any food or drink, with the exception of bottled water.

they should start asking boeing or airbus to scratch current designs and start working on the 'new normal' airplanes. Banking on a vaccine is a bad bet and as long as cvd19 is around the public will stay away.

because I have and it really sucks. A beer helped take the edge off.

...between you having a brewski at the airport bar before boarding, and Jonathan Entitled-Inheritor III getting fucked up to the point he decides to crap on the beverage cart and fight the attendants.

(And before someone jumps in with it: No, it's not the attendants' job to play bartender, nor should it be. They have more than enough to deal with as it is.)

And yes, sometimes when the plane is high up in the air, my imagination peels away the fuselage and feels the vast emptiness beneath and my solar plexus tightens as my body anticipates a long, long fall.

Sure.

But I've never needed alcohol or drugs to overcome these temptations to panic. I have my own inner way.

No bad on you, though, for wanting a beer before you fly. I'm just saying that being trapped in a steel tube, breathing recirculated air and smelling the odor of others crammed in like sardines for the sake of maximizing profits is a miserable thing in and of itself. When I was a kid, the proverbial 'friendly skies' really were friendly. Seats were more comfortable and there was more legroom. Flight attendants were more friendly.

But then, they did allow smoking on the airplanes (ick), and those little bottles of booze flowed. Meals were free - they weren't great, but they were part of the experience.

Now it is just miserable. I've pretty much sworn off flying these days, and not just from COVID. Planes need to be more comfortable, and the airlines need to stop nickel and dime-ing us with luggage check fees and all that other crap. Last time I flew, it was not enjoyable at all. Hasn't been for years.

I don’t enjoy it unless I get an upgrade to first class (if my university pays the base fare, I’ll sometimes pay for the upgrade). But I have to do it for work and personal stuff. I’m not happy about flying Saturday, but it can’t really be helped.

People fly and sometimes they want a drink. I have no idea what you are trying to say here? Why on Earth would anybody get on a plane just for a drink when they can buy a beer at the local 7-Eleven

Why would anyone fly just for a drink? Your post astounds me. When I fly and I am sitting for 4- 10 hours, I enjoy a drink. It is not the apocalypse to not have a drink, but to say I need help? Come on? Not everyone needs a drink but not everyone is a alcoholic either. You sir should consider your comments before posting. Just wow. Wow

The main reason is that I hate the downer that comes after the high. I don't want to go through that on a flight.

I also try to stay out of those creepy bathrooms.
