NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- New York City will be ready to enter Phase 2 on Monday, June 22, Governor Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday.
His announcement was in contrast to Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said he didn't see the city being ready until early July. He also said that the decision would be "made closely with the state," but barely two hours later, the state made the decision.
As part of Phase 2, restaurants and bars can offer outdoor dining, and professional services, administrative support, real estate rental and leasing, and in-store retail will be allowed to reopen.
"New York City will have been Phase 1 for 14 days," Cuomo said. "Look at all the numbers. All the numbers are good. Look at the number of tests, the positive tests, you look at it from the point of reopening, the numbers are good. Hospitalizations, since reopening, the numbers are good. So New York City is on track to enter Phase 2 on Monday."

(1,977 posts)I got the word the other day that I'll be going back to my regular gig on Monday. I'm a security guard/freight elevator operator. I've been working only weekends at a residential site. It is in a booth with minimal exposure so with a mask and gloves I was okay. The elevator - well with a mask. gloves and safety glasses it should be okay.

(32,620 posts)I'm in Pittsburgh and we went green over a week ago. Everybody is still wearing facemasks in public, the stores require masks and "6-feet apart" social distancing, etc. That will not go away anytime soon.
But we can go out, ride on the buses and trains, private cars are no problem of course, and we're doing everything cautiously. Baby steps. Good luck New York!
I was there in New York the weekend before the shutdown, March 13th-16th. Hope to come again soon.
