Biden campaign rebukes Trump effort to push for more debates

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign on Thursday rejected reported plans by President Trump’s reelection campaign to push for scheduling further presidential debates between the two.

Kate Bedingfield, the deputy campaign manager and communications director for the Biden campaign said that now that Trump is dipping in the polls, he wants to refocus attention on his campaign for additional debates.

“Six months after announcing he did not want to debate, Donald Trump — now trailing in the polls — wants to change the subject from his failed leadership, and launch a ‘campaign’ for many debates. But there’s a catch: he’ll only do it if he can pick the moderators,” Bedingfield said in a statement.

“We will make this simple: like every other Democratic and Republican candidate since 1992, we will show up for the debates set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, at the places they have selected, on the dates they have selected, with the formats and moderators they designate — so long as Donald Trump does the same, and does not intimidate the Commission into changes from past practices,” she said.

20. Debates do nothing, not even illuminate proposed policies or thoughts...it is just pontificating

Better to have 2 hour long focused, 4 prong issue/policy discussions w/ panels for each singular candidate.
Spares all of us from too much rhetoric and puts some meat in the process.
Significantly, a spectrum of 5 panel members from range of party factions would be productive, TV personalities always seem to have their own agenda not focused on the American people.

I'm thinking trump's campaign is attempting to create an issue where there is none. They want to make it look like they really want to debate, and tried to get more debstes. But, unfortunately, since the commission refused to make the debates "faur", they won't be able to show up for any debate.
In my opinion that's what they're trying to do.

COVID has us locked down. No baseball, no hockey, no football. They're crazy for trying to resurrect contact sports. Fans will be few. It has no profitable business model. 1918 saw many things cancelled.

No debates. Trump isn't up to it, and will cheat, lie, distort, whine. It's not worth it. There are no minds left to change. Let's get on with voting.

One constant note in the winger songbook is 'where is Joe?'. Erick tweeted yesterday (God help me never thought I'd write that phrase" 77 days since the last Biden press conference. I'm sure that's a lie, but it is true that a lot of us never hear from Joe.

They're just outside his range. Debates would change that.

Wonder if he will try that stupid stalking thing he did with Hillary? If he does, because he has done it before Biden is in a better position to confront him than Hillary was. She has said that she did not know whether to turn on him or ignore him. I so wish she had turned on him, with a cold stare and asked him if he was following her around because he was looking for the exit or some such malarkey. Flipped it back on him. If she had made one of her wisecracks it would have given her a real boost in likeablility.

once they see how badly 45 will debate. He can barely put a cohesive sentence together, even with a prompter, can hardly stand up and walk/unsteady on his feet - can you imagine him in a debate with Joe? Joe is going to simply crush him. Do they really want to add extra opportunities for the American public to see how mentally unfit 45 is?

And why are they asking for more debates when they haven't even had the first one? It's not a rally. President Biden and his group should not budge from what is already in place. Follow it to the letter as it has been done for years.
