U.S. coronavirus cases surge by more than 27,700 in a day as 7-day average jumps 15% from week ago

Source: CNBC

The U.S. reported more than 27,700 coronavirus cases on Thursday as the average number of daily new cases steadily grows compared to recent months of decline, according to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

As of Thursday, the nation’s seven-day average of new Covid-19 cases increased more than 15% compared to a week ago, according to Hopkins data. Cases are growing by 5% or more in 27 states across the U.S., including Arizona, Texas, California and Oklahoma.

New cases hit a peak of 31,630, based on a seven-day average, on April 10 before steadily falling to an eight-week low in late May. But the average showed an increase in the last week.

Arizona, Florida, California, South Carolina and Texas all reported record-high single-day increases in coronavirus cases on Thursday as the states continue to ramp up testing and the virus reaches new communities.

I think we are in for a long next 12 months... some of our neighbors, friends, and family will not be here in 12 months as this wildfire sweeps them away in the Ignorant Tornado that is the Federal Govt. run by Trump decimates the land.

Most of California’s new cases came from Los Angeles County, which reported 2,115. The state added that the single-day record was fueled by 600 positive test results that came in “from an earlier testing period.”

At a news briefing on Monday, Newsom attributed the rise in overall cases to increased testing. He added that the percent of people testing positive has remained stable at around 4.5% for more than a month.

Hopefully we will hold at the 4.5% but I'm guessing we will increase due to the amount of protests and the fact that 20 young people were having a party in my apartment complex. I was told none of them had masks on. They are 'guests' here since our apartment complex is now mostly short-term rentals making the lives of us who have lived her for the last 20 years or so... stressful.

since they're not happening in confined spaces. Viral loads will be very low if there is transmission since there is a lot more air to diffuse them into.

What might affect this is the use of gas that compromises protesters' lungs and would make them more susceptible to viral damage.

Note to people who are still on Farcebook: CS gas does nothing to neutralize viral particles.

9. I'm hoping that is the case but

my fear is that they go somewhere and hangout indoors afterwards or simply relax self-discipline. I say this since I'm seeing many more people not wearing masks in my area. The mask wearing rate seemed to be around 95% + since it started but I would say it's down to around 85% +/-.

And unmasked tourists are coming in (probably from other parts of CA or surrounding states) based on the short-term rentals in my building recently filling up again. There are quite a few of those around here.

on edit: 85% +/- is still a good rate but I'd feel better to see it back at the 95% rate.

Places that are showing sharp increases with double or triple the cases probably need to put mask orders into place and close venues that draw crowds. OK is the test case for that one, where the sycophantic governor will do neither of these things lest he be found disloyal.

We will undoubtedly see a spike here in NM by Thursday from this pep rally fiasco. Yes, his rabid fans exist everywhere, even here, although I have yet to see a yard sign, bumper sticker, or stupid red hat in the wild.

CDC data: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html
Find their bar graph about half way down the page.
My graph shows raw data in blue, an average over the previous 5 days in dark red and a 10 day average in green.

As I see it, new cases per day were dropping (on average) until June. Now they are rising.

JH appears to be using different methods of data collection. The CDC has a high spike of 43,000+ cases on 6 April that doesn't show on the JH graph. I don't see this as indicating either data sets as flawed just that there are some chronological variances.
