Federal judge appears skeptical of blocking Bolton book release

Source: The Hill

A federal judge appeared skeptical on Friday about the Trump administration's effort to block former national security adviser John Bolton from releasing his new tell-all book next week.

Judge Royce C. Lamberth said there seems to be little he could do to stop the book titled "The Room Where it Happened: A White House Memoir" from being made widely available at this point, with stores across the country set to put it on sale Tuesday.

"The horse, as we used to say in Texas, seems to be out of the barn," Lamberth said.

"It certainly looks difficult to me about what I can do about those books all over the country."

From CNN, apparently the source for MSN:

Federal judge skeptical he can stop publication of John Bolton's book

By Katelyn Polantz, CNN

Updated 4:15 PM ET, Fri June 19, 2020

Washington (CNN) -- A federal judge expressed doubt Friday he could stop the upcoming publication of the book by former national security adviser John Bolton.

"The horse, as we used to say in Texas, seems to be out of the barn," Judge Royce Lamberth of the DC District Court, said during a hearing Friday. "It certainly looks difficult to me about what I can do about those books all over the country."

Lamberth didn't make a decision at the almost two-hour hearing on Friday and said he will wait to review more details from the Justice Department before deciding. Bolton's book is scheduled to be released Tuesday. It's possible Lamberth doesn't resolve the court fight before then.

The court fight over Bolton's book has turned the former national security adviser's skirmish with President Donald Trump into a symbolic fight over freedom of speech and the press. It is also allowing Bolton to push for an outside referee over whether the White House's national security decision-making was proper, or done to protect Trump politically in an election year.

I hope trump doesn't watch it. So many things in Bolton's book have already been leaked and many more things will be leaked that there isn't any reason to ban it. Too many books have been banned. Some places in this country wanted Anne Frank's "The Diary of a Young Girl" to be banned. In high school, I got a lot of grief because I did an oral book report on J. D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye".

awaiting release day to put on the shelves? What are they supposed to do? Recall?

Even if they managed that, there will be copies everywhere and loaded to the net.

Too late, Trump!

Fuck you

5. I remember Judge Royce C Lamberth. He was a real scumbag to Bill Clinton.

From the Chicago Tribune - May 2000:

When a federal judge recently declared that President Clinton had violated the Privacy Act and committed a crime by releasing personal letters written to him, Clinton noted acidly that the judge had "somehow acquired a significant percentage of the cases involving the White House." A Clinton adviser called the judge a "loose cannon."

It is highly unusual for a president to take on a judge this way, but Royce Lamberth is hardly a typical judge. The flamboyant 56-year-old Texan in recent years has aimed a series of well-publicized jabs at the Clinton administration--penalizing high-level aides, challenging presidential initiatives, questioning administration motives and lambasting Clinton officials in cutting, colorful language.

Lamberth's reputation for nettling the president, who also faces a humiliating recommendation by an Arkansas disciplinary panel that he lose his law license because of untruthful testimony in the Paula Jones case, is such that one user of the anti-Clinton Web site Free Republic recently posted the message, "U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth is WAY Cool! An unsung hero in my book." Replied another, "YES WAY COOL!!!!!!!" A third wrote that Lamberth "is just hammering the Clinton Admin."

Those familiar with Lamberth, including many of the lawyers who practice before him, say he is highly suspicious of the government and appears to strongly dislike the Clinton administration. That, combined with an affinity for publicity, has prompted Lamberth to issue a string of provocative--his critics would say questionable--rulings against Clinton and his associates.

thus they were claiming the book should be classified?

All I seen and / or heard is the gross treatment by rump towards the leaders of Canada and France, two of our closest allies. God, what happens when a country is an enemy of rump's?

On all fronts, rump is proving to be a disaster of epic proportions.
