Graham says he won't advance Trump nominee for SDNY prosecutor without Schumer/Gillibrand consent
Source: Fox News
Sen. Lindsey Graham said Saturday he will not take up President Trump's nomination for a new U.S. attorney for Manhattan unless New York's Democratic senators sign off.
Graham, a Republican from South Carolina who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he will honor the "blue slip" tradition and require the consent of home state senators to proceed -- in this case, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
Graham's statement signals an uphill climb for Trump to get a new Senate-confirmed federal prosecutor in one of the nations most high-profile districts. It comes hours after Attorney General Bill Barr made a Friday night announcement that Geoffrey Berman, the current U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, is stepping down.
Barr and the White House announced that Trump will nominate Jay Clayton, the current chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to replace Berman.

Yes, I know this is Fox, but I haven't seen this in another outlet yet, except mentioned here:

Replacing Geoffrey Berman will be tough before the November election
But Republicans on Capitol Hill showed little willingness to ensure a new nominee without Democratic support meaning there is a real possibility that the nomination of Jay Clayton to replace him could languish and Berman could stay at the post indefinitely.
The fast-moving developments did actually catch by surprise Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trumps and Barrs, who said Saturday hed not been told about the effort to fire Berman.
And in a substantial announcement Saturday, Graham announced that he will honor tradition to let home-state senators sign off on an upgraded for Bermans post, and thus Democrats essentially have veto power over a replacement to a position considered the most effective US attorney job in the country.

(8,731 posts)The 900,000 plus no shows at the Jamboree have them concerned. A hand full of toothless skeeters aint gonna get them re-elected. The over flow outside event cancelled. Nobody there. Where is the million rabid trumpers, to jumpstart campaign 2020. Pasquale may be gone come Monday, no worries he will leave with full pockets and take home gifts. That crowd looks like an extremely rural packed Walmart at the first of the month with gubment checks for a 1/2 price ham and Budweiser sale. Ye haaa! Own those libs. Fuck NASCAR ban on AmuRKKKas flag. MAGA!

(8,731 posts)I live in the middle of skeeterville. WNC. Actual saw there were shots of screaming male and female skeeters today, with no front teeth, or just one. Obama care does not cover dental, so that would not have helped. Minimal teeth is a badge of honor here. Gubment checks allow lots of sugar foods, toothpaste is too expensive, takes away from tator chips. Gargling with Pepsi is good enough to clean this ragged few they got. But they think republicans are all about them. Culters gonna cult.

I can navigate anywhere, as an Ops Specialist in the Navy, and teaching orienteering in college, I can hide and avoid any human contact. That is how to deal with skeeter infestation. Stay in the woods with my liberal black lesbian Labrador. Avoid Wally World.

(15,536 posts)people would ask me what I liked the most about NC and I would always say the geography of the state. Living in Charlotte I could be to the coast in three hours or the mountains in two. Then they'd ask me what I didn't like about it and I'd say "some of the people are living in the past". That was the most polite way of describing them.

If he breaks this time honored tradition of the senate he will have no say so over appointments in South Carolina and will have lost patronage power. US attorney jobs are highly prized because when you can put that on your resume you become a million dollar a year lawyer.
