Tennessee Newspaper Blasted For Printing Ad Claiming Islam Is Going To Nuke Nashville
The full-page ad, paid for by what appears to be a Christian doomsday cult, featured a banner at the top that included images of President Donald Trump, Pope Francis and American flags engulfed in flames.

The Tennessean said its launching an investigation into how the ad, which the paper said clearly violates its standards, came to be published.

They said it was a "breakdown of normal procedures" and that the ad department and editorial board don't work together. But do they really expect us to believe no one at all looks at the finished layout before it goes to press?

(17,003 posts)Lots of people saw that before it went to print. Days before it went to print would be my guess. Were not talking front page stuff. They just wanted the money.

(18,606 posts)Lately and the apparent level of editorial input to modern newspapers, I have no trouble believing newspapers are often distributed without anything but the most cursory glance at the finished layout.
Having worked in an underfunded, understaffed newspaper, it's all too easy for something like this to get overlooked. When you're looking at ad layouts, especially, it's very easy to block out the content entirely -- you're focused on make blocks of copy fit together. And a full-page ad? You just slap it on the page and move on to something that requires more attention.
