Tennessee Newspaper Blasted For Printing Ad Claiming ‘Islam’ Is Going To Nuke Nashville

The Tennessean ― the state’s most widely circulated daily newspaper ― is facing intense scrutiny after publishing an anti-Muslim ad in its Sunday print edition that claimed “Islam” planned to detonate a nuclear bomb in Nashville.

The full-page ad, paid for by what appears to be a Christian doomsday cult, featured a banner at the top that included images of President Donald Trump, Pope Francis and American flags engulfed in flames.

...

The Tennessean said it’s launching an investigation into how the ad, which the paper said clearly violates its standards, came to be published.

They said it was a "breakdown of normal procedures" and that the ad department and editorial board don't work together. But do they really expect us to believe no one at all looks at the finished layout before it goes to press?

Lots of people saw that before it went to print. Days before it went to print would be my guess. We’re not talking front page stuff. They just wanted the money.

Lately and the apparent level of editorial input to modern newspapers, I have no trouble believing newspapers are often distributed without anything but the most cursory glance at the finished layout.

Having worked in an underfunded, understaffed newspaper, it's all too easy for something like this to get overlooked. When you're looking at ad layouts, especially, it's very easy to block out the content entirely -- you're focused on make blocks of copy fit together. And a full-page ad? You just slap it on the page and move on to something that requires more attention.

"Money makes the world go round, the world go around, the world go around". Do you think I might have been thinking they ran the ad for the money?
