2 killed and 12 injured in North Carolina shooting at block party, police say

Source: CNN

Two people were shot dead and 12 others hurt early Monday at an "impromptu block party" in North Carolina, Deputy Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

"Several shooters discharged dozens of shots into the crowd," the CMPD said in a statement.

Officers responded to a call of a pedestrian hit around 12:30 a.m., when they heard gunshots, the statement said. When they got to the scene, officers found a woman with a gunshot wound lying in Beatties Ford Road with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene, the release said.

CNN affiliate WBTV reported "hundreds of people" were in the streets.

Without any verified facts, I'd bet dimes to donuts: this was racially motivated. n/t Eyeball_Kid Jun 2020 #1

and it rarely is racially motivated. I'm not ruling it out, but typically it's a grudge that got settled by guns.

I live in a small town outside Jacksonville, NC. It is a peaceful town made up of Whites, Blacks, and Muslims. We don't have shootings except for deer, bears, and squirrels.

Very diverse population but a lot of poverty and a history of systemic racism, plus a growing gang problem due to the opioid trade. Makes for a constant background noise of violence that the powers that be aren’t overly concerned with since it is all taking place in the “wrong side of town.”

The demonstrations triggered by George Floyd’s killing are sparking some good conversations, which hopefully will lead to much needed changes.

Not sure if this is verified but maybe we can research these events since cities, locations and dates are listed, I did some simple searches based on the information listed and all of the ones that I picked to search on seem to have local news stories about gatherings where people were shot and no suspects captured

I think the numbers by each represent dead and injured

At least 9 people are dead and 77 were injured during protests around the county in a 48 hour period.. All took place over the past weekend. All were from shots fired from an unknown person or persons shooting into a crowd. National news shows this morning are offering no coverage of these incidents. THIS CAN'T BE A COINCIDENCE! What the hell is going on and why are the news outlets that thrive on sensational acts such as this mute? Inquiring minds want to know!

Co-incident.

But is the coincidence meaningful? Probably not in terms of intention and planning. But in terms of so many people walking around armed to the teeth it's inevitable.

And, I don't see that we can ever wind down the current problems with police violence until we wind down the civilian violence that results from heavily armed citizens roaming the land. It's a dystopia.

Unless it hits double digits of death, a bunch of idiots getting drunk, "disrespecting" one another, or fighting over the same woman and shooting up Aunt Luetha's 80th birthday BB-Q is no longer "newsworthy".

It's the same with a lot of shootings.

Problem is, they avoid those events because they give people the "wrong idea."

By focusing just on some incidents, they *also* give people the "wrong idea."
