Senate confirms Trump's 200th judicial nominee

Source: CNN

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's 200th judicial nominee was confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in a presidency that has tilted the federal judiciary in a conservative direction for decades to come.

With the confirmation of Judge Cory Wilson to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Trump has successfully appointed 53 appeals court judges, 143 district court judges, two US Court of International Trade judges and two Supreme Court justices -- Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh -- according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's office.

Trump, with the help of a determined McConnell and Senate GOP majority, has significantly reshaped the judiciary during his first term, and the 200th appointment milestone illustrates how lasting his legacy will be, as federal judges serve lifetime appointments and many of Trump's picks have been young judges who can serve for many years.

"Judicial confirmations may be President Trump's most important legacy," said CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. "They will shape the nation's laws on abortion, LGBT rights, voting rights and many other issues long after Trump leaves office."

200 federal judges in 3 1/2 years. That has to be a modern record, and there's still more to come.

1. Stacking the courts...

Stacking the courts is a refuge for a ruthless party on the way to obsolescence, (demographically and otherwise) as it wraps its grimy hands around the throat of an entire country with a chock hold of illegitimacy.

The GOP is no longer merely an opposition party to democrats, they stand in opposition to our democracy and are in the process of holding on to power by any means necessary, including trying to establish a one-party system under a dictator. One does not need to be partisan to see that is the case.

We must be on guard as to the question of legitimacy because it stands out as a problem the more you observe their current tactics and allegiances.

2. And unfortunately these judges will try to undo any progress on civil and voting rights.

5. But then it'll go to SCOTUS. And beating trump (i believe) will stop it from going WAY right.

We've already seen roberts, Gorsuch & Kavenaugh all piss off the base. Roberts the most, but still. Biden picking RBG's replacement and likely at least one other keeps the balance the same as now. Right "leaning" but not right wing. Most decisions are 7-2 and higher, but we never hear much about those.

16. SCOTUS takes 80ish cases per year?

Trump has flipped several circuit courts, and he will make a shitload more appointments between now and January. There's not much we can do to stop it now, and courts are unlikely to be significantly expanded in the coming years.

There is definitely no judge shortage now, I don't think Roberts has even mentioned it in the past year as he often did in years past.

What votes has he been liberal on? I thought they liked him.

26. He voted against reviewing 2 cases against Planned Parenthood funding.

THAT pissed off a lot on the right.
There have been a few other instances that i cant remember, but those were the big ones.

3. Roughly equal to Obama's full eight years for the top two levels

Slightly behind the 4-year pace for district judges.

4. Regaining the senate is more important than getting the presidency IMHO.

If we control both chambers and Trump wins, he will get NOTHING done.

8. I have felt that way for a long time.

Winning back the Senate is actually more important. McConnell is more dangerous than Trump.

I hope all Dems realize that.

9. There are only 23 Republican senate seats up for election

You expect to win 20 of those 23 and hold the Alabama seat?

Itís just not gonna happen, nor should it.

"I don't like the guy who appointed you" isn't an impeachable offense.

14. 200 judges have committed perjury?

That will be a tough sell... and a quick ticket to handing the reigns of power back to republicans.

21. Perjury is very hard to prove.

And all of these judges have, you know, been to law school.

And accusing them of perjury, and then trying to impeach them, because they didnít rule the way you liked is not going to look good to voters.

10. Only way I can see to address it is instituting term limits or increasing the number of justices

and adding 2 more to each court and doing what the Republicans have done and put young liberal judges in each of the spots.

17. Biden needs to nudge every older Dem leaning judge to retire

Anyone in their 60's and 70's need to give it up if we win the Senate and Biden wins. We need to ram through every judge like Mitch did.

Even if they're <40. Their reputations are compromised by the Trump brand.

27. For being lackeys because after all some of them have never heard or presented a case in court room

some have the degree and that is it, like #Moscow Mitch's lackey that just got placed on the bench..........and my all time favorite the one that just got place on the 2nd DC District Court of Appeals............that just ruled that a liar a former Lt General, an agent to a foreign power............that plead guilty should have his case dismissed................wonder if I could have that done if I was in that position..............and in the back ground the good old Federalist Society is running interference for them ..................great combination.........

Here's an example, lets say you were working on a airplane, and you knowingly did not following the Manufacture procedures to repair a plane, or you bend the rules to your liking, you put a fuel filter in wrong, or you put a rigging cable in that was not properly checked, and did not check the plane during a engine run, or flap or slats operation, the person doing the annual inspection signs off the plane and gives it to the owner, owner gets in said plane goes down the runway, gets airborne, lets say 1,000 feet and crashes and kills said owner, the NTSB and the FAA determine that said inspector did not perform the proper procedure of the inspection, like checking the fuel was running during a engine run or the flaps or slats when positioned in all settings ..............a) do you think he/she should get off or b) should he/she get charged and go to jail.................

just asking................

20. Importance of down ballot races

This is why Dems must start emphasizing how important voting in House and Senate races are. A lot of screen space is spent on Biden and the discussion of his potential running mate, but we MUST start explaining how essential these state races are.

Winning down ballot races is the only way we'll see our policies passed that will benefit our entire nation, even those self butt kicking trumpers. It took me awhile, but I'm dialed in now. Let's hope the DNC gets to work, because Moscow Mitch is working on leaving us handcuffed for decades to come.
