Jeffrey Epstein statue mysteriously appears outside City Hall

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A statue of financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein popped up outside city hall overnight. And although it wasn’t there long, the pictures online have sparked a lot of questions. News 13 got a hold of the group behind it to get their explanation.

“We think we need an Epstein statue in every school because otherwise how are students even going to learn they even existed? You know those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it, and so if we don’t have statues of Epstein up, how can we prevent predatory behavior,” said an anonymous member of Antlion Entertainment Art Collective.

The group says although people like Jeffrey Epstein are known for doing horrible things and committing crimes, “a statue is just a statue.” I was also a satirical political statement against all the statues and monuments that have been torn down all over the country recently.

“You know, so many statues are being taken down but you know, people are saying that they’re bad people, so you know maybe we just need more statues of people like Epstein because that’s historical too, so we maybe need statues of people like Epstein, maybe school’s can even have statue parks with people like Hitler, and Mao and Lennon just so that we can really you know, remember history,” said the anonymous member.

A representation of JE, as in a mannequin painted gold, according to the local news presenter.

I'd love it a lot more if the PTB would saw the repaired foot off the Juan de Onate statue. Footless, he would provoke a lot of unpleasant history lessons that should never have been hidden from view.

The point is that if Onate is presented as heroic, why not Epstein?

Yep, this was a good place to move when I left Boston. I fit right in.

Or was he asking every native if he had any gold...with only 30 troops exploring in his last exploration before being tried and defrocked for his murders and mayhem, seems extremely naive..

He's the one who followed the El Cibola tall tale all the way up into Kansas.

A lot of the clay here is micaceous, so if he saw a town like Acoma, up on a mesa, in exactly the right light close to sunset, he'd think it was made of gold. Imagine his disappointment when he found a society of farmers and artisans in their mud desert houses. Must've have ticked him off because he stopped being at all friendly to the locals and pretty much wrecked everything else he found.

One has to admire his persistence, trekking all the way to Kansas before it finally dawned on him that any gold that was to be found had to be worked for, creeks with gold in the sand followed up to whatever the source was up in the mountains. And of course, he missed all the true wealth of the country he marched through looking for easy pickings. All the natives he'd met were only too willing to tell him what he'd been looking for was thataway, the hell out of their territory.

is dumb but easily solved. We just put up statues of things that show how horrific the slave trade was or that show social injustice. But that isn't what the statue protectors really want. They really want their racist statues to stay so they can flip off Black Lives Matter and say they won.

What Epstein did was swept under the rug because it involved powerful people doing horrible things to ordinary people. Isn't that what slavery was also about, powerful people doing horrible things to ordinary people? There will be a rush to tear down the Epstein statue but no such rush to tear down confederate statues.

I think the putting up the Epstein statue makes a great point, a great analogy.

to where it would get news coverage. I understand what they were doing but if that statute was put up 50 years ago no one would understand the context and most would probably think he was someone to be admired. I was just making a suggestion as to what should replace the Civil War statues to really help people understand the true history.

We would also have statues of the actual winners of the Civil War all over the South. Not the losers.

What can, or will ever unite us again? The scourge of widening economic inequality, class conflict, political dysfunction and rising authoritarianism are taking a huge toll on this country and could last for generations. And I hope I'm wrong.

Not 'uniting us' through another war please although experts claim that's in the future with rising climate change, the fight for resources namely water and food and mass migration of peoples from extreme heat and drought plagued areas. Continued epidemics expected as well.

Add in conflicts heating up with overseas adversaries which economists and international specialists are warning about and have been forecasting. (SEE Nouriel Roubini, aka 'Dr. Doom' and others,
https://www.project-syndicate.org/columnist/nouriel-roubini).

I sensed the 21st century was going to be difficult by about 2005, but I couldn't explain why, just intuition I think. When I casually mentioned this to a friend it scared her half to death; she's very smart and practical but with a strong spiritual side as well.

Seriously, I'm very concerned about the whole picture, more than ever in my lifetime.
