Source: cnn
(CNN)"Operation Warp Speed," the federal government's Covid-19 vaccine program, on Tuesday announced the largest government Covid-19 vaccine contract to date -- a $1.6 billion contract with Novavax, a Maryland biotech company.
"It speaks to the confidence that they have in our platform to be able to develop a vaccine," Stanley Erck, Novavax's president and CEO, said Monday in an interview with CNN.
Erck said Novavax's vaccine could be on the market by the first quarter of next year.

The money should have been used for another stimulus check not more corporate welfare.

(12,712 posts)There is a storm coming from the economic impact of this catastrophe.
Without another much needed stimulus check for the people, this is going to turn into a nightmare in many places and rather soon, especially with the UI increase ending at the end of July.
The next two months will reveal the results of this neglect.

(8,909 posts)Why sooooo much $$$$$$'s?
$1.6B (yes BILLION)
This administration is holding back $14B of allocated fund for just this type of service.
Wonder if they're vetting out companies/individuals for possible backdoor paybacks?
Has Stanley Erck, Novavax's president and CEO, agreed to donate money to Pendejo's campaign?
How many people can get tested for this amount?
Better yet, how many college students could get their education paid, with this money?

(5,304 posts)I've watched NAVX many times over the years claim to have "breakthru" research "in the pipeline" for virtually every new disease that comes our way. They were there for Bird Flu, SARS, Swine Flu, and even claimed to be on the verge of an Ebola cure when that was in the news.
They have never delivered and I doubt they will this time either. To me NVAX is a scam company that never fails to pump up its stock price and leave the new investors in the dust when the insiders sell their stock to them and the stock goes back down when it is clear the company is all hot air and never produces any results.

(2,227 posts)will shout that loud and clear.
It looks like its stock price is up 28%, today. As I type this, it was 80.15 per share yesterday, and 104.00 right now.
Pretty good for a company that hasn't produced...
I wonder who is doing the scamming/skimmimg?

Which brings up the question how they've been around this long. Seems they've never actually made any money and NASDAQ threatened to delist them.

(5,304 posts)In the biotech world there there are literally hundreds of companies just like this. They make their money selling stock. Or I should say the people running the company are making money and the people buying the stock continually get hosed over and over again. They simply put out a press release saying their obscure new drug is showing "promising" results according to some study, the stock price spikes as newbie traders rush in to buy the news, the experienced traders are eager to sell to them, and in a few days or weeks the stock has given up all the gains and a new batch of newbies has again lost tons of cash. If you are a day trader you can make a lot of money on these moves, if you are a long term investor, not so much. I would venture to say EVERYONE who bought this POS at the open above $100 are going to lose most of their money over the long term if their plan is buy and hold.
I pretty much focus on futures trading these days and don't spend much time with stocks anymore, but when I saw this scam pop up again I had to weigh in.
