WHO acknowledges 'evidence emerging' of airborne spread of COVID-19

Source: Reuters

GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization on Tuesday acknowledged “evidence emerging” of the airborne spread of the novel coronavirus, after a group of scientists urged the global body to update its guidance on how the respiratory disease passes between people.

“We have been talking about the possibility of airborne transmission and aerosol transmission as one of the modes of transmission of COVID-19,” Maria Van Kerkhove, technical lead on the COVID-19 pandemic at the WHO, told a news briefing.

The WHO has previously said the virus that causes the COVID-19 respiratory disease spreads primarily through small droplets expelled from the nose and mouth of an infected person that quickly sink to the ground.

But in an open letter to the Geneva-based agency, published on Monday in the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal, 239 scientists in 32 countries outlined evidence that they say shows floating virus particles can infect people who breathe them in.

We die, just like Putin wants. He might not have planned it this way, but Putin's singular goal has always been to weaken and if possible destroy our country. Having a pandemic just makes it that much easier, especialy when you have your personal puppet as president.

Who do you think put the idea in Trump's head that the WHO was conspiring with China? Or that a real leader bends the country to his will by "dominating" dissent? Or that the economy is more important than the lives of the people? Why are all of these telephone calls between Vlad and Fat Donnie all of a sudden?

There was talk several months ago about California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada seceding from the U.S. and doing what we know is best for our people. Being ordered to send our children to school -- and certain infection and death -- in August might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

We all know that even in very large indoor spaces, if even one person is smoking (exhaling), you can smell it. Second-hand smoking is the reason why smoking isn't allowed indoors any longer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're smelling someone's exhaled cigarette smoke from 200' away, you're actually smelling what they've exhaled.

The COVID infected person who isn't wearing a mask is exhaling and possibly contaminating everyone else through their eyeballs.

I'm sure it depends on how much viral load gets in to your eyes based on how close you're standing to the person.

That's why I refuse to go in places that allow people to not wear masks.

Nope.

Maybe if everybody also wear masks, there will be relatively little droplets with viruses in suspension in the air.

It't not like we can do anything much different; wear masks, social distance, wash hands and surfaces, etc.

and we just pulled out of the WHO so where do we get guidance from? Not Team tRump, that's for sure.

I haven't trusted the CDC for 5 months and the WHO is not completely reliable either, in my opinion.
