Source: People Magazine
Kelly Preston has died. She was 57.
"On the morning of July 12, 2020, Kelly Preston, adored wife and mother, passed away following a two-year battle with breast cancer," a family representative tells PEOPLE exclusively.
"Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends," the family rep says. "She was a bright, beautiful and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time."
Preston is survived by her husband John Travolta and their children: daughter Ella, 20, and 9-year-old son Benjamin. Son Jett died at age 16 in January 2009.

(46,094 posts)John Travolta has had his share (perhaps more) of tragedy: The loss of his fiancee, Diana Hyland in 1978; the loss of his son, Jett in 2009; and now, his wife.

(9,966 posts)Do Scientologists believe in conventional medical treatment? I know they don't believe in psychiatry or psychology, either of which might have helped Lisa Marie Presley's son, but do they believe in conventional medical treatment? (And no, I'm not confusing them with Christian Scientists, I just don't know very much about some aspects of their belief system.)

(4,465 posts)The do believe you should be treated medically, but they also believe the cause of cancer is your failure to "get clear", and the "Thetans" clinging to you cause the cancer. Getting cancer is therefore seen as a moral failing, pretty much the same way some Christian sects view it as a failure of "faith".

(25,586 posts)Seriously, fawning over a Scientologist, given all we know about their reprehensible and destructive behavior now, is a bit unseemly. Good riddance to bad rubbish and leave it at that.

(32,626 posts)and what do you care if other people value any human life more than you do?
That's nasty. And nobody's exactly "fawning". Just some RIPs. Get over yourself.

(37,748 posts)other people don't dismiss death quite as readily as we desire them to.
Maybe you could offer us a list of those whose deaths we should mock and trivialize... you know, just so you don't get frustrated by the compassion of others again.
Bless your heart.
