White House tells hospitals to bypass CDC on COVID-19 data reporting

Source: The Hill

Hospitals will begin sending coronavirus-related information directly to the Department of Health and Human Services, not the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), under new instructions from the Trump administration.

The move will take effect on Wednesday, according to a new guidance and FAQ document for hospitals and clinical labs quietly posted on the HHS website.

Previously, hospitals reported to the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network, which the agency describes as the nation’s most widely used healthcare-associated infection tracking system.

CDC tracked information including how many beds are available, number of ventilators available and how many COVID-19 patients the hospitals have....

The hospitals aren't federalized. They can send their data wherever they want, right?

This is such an obvious effort to prevent the public from learning just how serious the virus is and how many deaths are occurring. The media needs to make this a hot topic for several days until Trump backs off. People need to know that Trump wants to hide information from them about outbreaks in their communities.

But I do wonder that there is no other hidden agenda we haven't heard of at work here. Controlling the so-called official data seems the obvious thing to do, much as they have tried with redacting and erasing (well, attempting to erase) the evidence of Stone, Flynn and inevitably Trump's crimes.
We know that the Orange Orangutan lives in a fantasy that serves only one. It begs the question that they would do this only to hide information which is easily public and publicized. It seems much more like the kind of pathetic obfuscatory tactic attempted in front of a jury when they can see the mountain of evidence for themselves. But I guess that is the point. If he can put what he claims are representative numbers in front of the Congressional GOP they can pretend to believe him and continue the dangerous farce they call governing (if looting the treasury 5 times over to pay for their re-election can be called such).

I agree this seems to be another stab at Orwellian thought control, combined with Newspeak from minions such as DeVos, Barr, and Desantis, (and others too numerous to catalog) and underscored by the shocking news that the owners of the National Enquirer are about to buy the second-largest newspaper chain in the country.

He has no authority over 79% of the hospitals, which are privately owned. So he can perhaps suppress the numbers a little, but he’s likely to get bad PR from doing so. It doesn’t help him at all.
