Former federal prosecutor and MSNBC legal analyst Mimi Rocah has won the Democratic primary for Westchester County district attorney.
Incumbent Anthony Scarpino conceded the race Thursday, more than three weeks after a June 23 primary whose results were slowed by thousands of mail-in ballots used as an alternative to in-person voting due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak.
It has been my distinct honor to serve as District Attorney and I am grateful to the people of Westchester for affording me the opportunity to do so since 2017, Scarpino said in a statement. I am extraordinarily proud of the public servants in the District Attorneys Office who dedicate every day to create a safer, more just County for all.
Mimi Rocah, who is running for Westchester District Attorney, called on state Attorney General Letitia James to take over the investigation of Mount Vernon police misconduct and how the DA's office handled it so far, outside Westchester County Courthouse in White Plains June 3, 2020.

(67,782 posts)....maybe only two months before the actual primaries. The infrastructure to handle hundreds of thousands of votes vs. only tens of thousands of votes didn't exist. It had to be quickly built up to handle the huge increase in volume.
I'd prefer them taking their time and getting it right than rushing and making errors.

(25,853 posts)There will probably be many more people voting by mail in November, at least in the states that make it possible to get such a ballot. They'd better be thinking now how they're going to count all the ballots.
