Florida reports a record 156 coronavirus deaths, record 72 in Tampa Bay

Florida saw a record-high number of deaths announced on Thursday, recording 156 people dead from coronavirus over 24 hours. The number passes the previous record high, which was recorded on Tuesday.
The 7-day death average continued upward, moving from about 91 people per day up to about 96 people dead per day. Since March, 4,782 people statewide have died from the virus. The Tampa Bay area, with 72 deaths, was responsible for just under half of all the days deaths, with a record-high 40 deaths announced out of Hillsborough.
Hospitalizations also hit a record-high, increasing by 495 admissions, bringing the total increase in hospital treatment because of coronavirus up to 20,154.
Nearly 14,000 new cases were recorded on Thursday, with the Florida Department of Health announcing 13,965 new infections, bringing the total recorded since the pandemic began up to 315,775 cases. The number of tests processed on Thursday, according to the Department of Health, leaped upward to more than 115,000, with the days positivity at about 13 percent.
