"Governor Kemp does not give a damn about us," Savannah mayor says after mask decision
Source: CBS News
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson slammed Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in a tweet on Wednesday after Kemp explicitly banned cities and counties in the state from ordering people to wear masks in public. Johnson said the governor is ignoring science.
"It is officially official," Johnson tweeted. "Governor Kemp does not give a damn about us. Every man and woman for himself/herself. Ignore the science and survive the best you can. In #Savannah, we will continue to keep the faith and follow the science. Masks will continue to be available!"
At least 15 local governments across the state had adopted face masks orders, even though Kemp had earlier said cities and counties had no power to make those decisions, The Associated Press reports. Kemp voided the local orders on Wednesday. His new order bans local governments from requiring masks on public property.
Earlier this month, Johnson signed an emergency order requiring face coverings in public spaces and in commercial businesses in Savannah, CBS Savannah affiliate WTOC reported. During a news conference last week, Johnson said some businesses were not following the order and he amended the order to include a penalty of $500 for violators.

But yeah, it's proven science that wearing a mask does much more to protect others than it does to protect the mask wearer, although there is still a benefit to the mask wearer.

(1,819 posts)I'm beginning to believe this is purposeful and aimed straight at the election. These people are
scheming and I think working off Putins playbook to weaken and destroy the country. If there are enough
dead or dying by election time the election can be cancelled because sick people can not revolt.
This is not a conspiracy theory it is just my thoughts, I am entitled to them.

(43,161 posts)I was in NJ today in a store and a customer wasn't wearing a mask. And these small older stores with inadequate ventilation are no help.
They put signs in the stores - state law says wear a mask, but they look the other way when customers don't comply.
In this mindset, every little cough seems worth 14 days of quarantine. I think this is day one of my 14.

(9,070 posts)...but a long as minority, hispanic, and poorer people are the ones getting sick...Kemp doesn't care. If it was WASPs he would order masks in a second.
