White House blocks CDC from testifying on reopening schools next week

Source: CNN

(CNN)The White House is blocking US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield and other officials from the agency from testifying before a House Education and Labor Committee hearing on reopening schools next week, just as the debate over sending children back to classrooms has flared up across the US.

White House officials informed the committee of its decision in an email, a staff member on the House panel told CNN.
"Dr. Redfield has testified on the Hill at least four times over the last three months. We need our doctors focused on the pandemic response," a White House official said, confirming the decision to block the CDC's participation in the hearing.
But a spokesman for the House Education and Labor Committee said the panel had requested testimony from any CDC official, not necessarily Redfield.

WASHINGTON – Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (VA-03) released the following statement after the Trump administration blocked the Centers from Disease Control and Prevention from testifying at a public hearing about safely reopening schools.

“School reopening plans must be guided by the advice of public health experts. For that reason, we asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to testify in a public hearing to provide greater clarity on the steps we can take to help schools reopen safely.

“It is alarming that the Trump administration is preventing the CDC from appearing before the Committee at a time when its expertise and guidance is so critical to the health and safety of students, parents, and educators. This lack of transparency does a great disservice to the many communities across the country facing difficult decisions about reopening schools this fall.

“The administration’s strategy of prioritizing politics over science has had a devastating impact on our country throughout this pandemic. It should not make that same mistake when it comes to reopening schools.”

My guess is that the White House has diluted the CDC standards for schools reopening against the recommendations of CDC. Just a guess.

What is the difference between us and the Russian and Chinese government controlling what the people are to know. The health care industry is already working overtime. But to St and change everything on reporting. No it Trump want to give us fake numbers so we can go back to work and school. No care if everyone get I'll and caused deaths by infecting others that this disease will kill. No To me and My daughter (sprnds every afternoon outside in the heat collecting Covid19 test specimens). I think the long he is I office the more damage he will inflict against democracy. This upsets me to no end. Might as well have a dictator.

Outside of the obvious regulatory capture by the installation of lap-dogs at key positions.

How can the WH even try to keep them from testifying before the Legislative Oversight Committees?

This is overreach and a breach of the separation of powers at it's worst. It really needs to be one of the first items addressed when and if a new administration takes office.
