Florida Counties Impose Curfews As Coronavirus Cases Spike

Source: CBS News

By Manuel Bojorquez, 4 hrs ago.

Officials in Miami on Friday announced an 8 p.m. curfew along South Beach, as Florida topped 10,000 new daily cases for the tenth time. Authorities hope the curfew will cut down on partying, one of the behaviors suspected of fueling the coronavirus' rapid spread.

A curfew was also announced in Broward County. "We're not taking a full lockdown off the table," said infectious disease specialist Dr. Aileen Marty, who warned Miami-Dade County is nearing a tipping point. Intensive care units in eight of the county's 25 hospitals are full, she said.

But she expressed cautious hope that numbers could be leveling off. "We're hoping against hope that people are getting the message, that they're changing their behavior," she said. "If we don't see that by Monday, Tuesday, then yeah, it's possible that we may have to enact further measures." The county has announced a new $100 fine for violating its mask mandate. Facial coverings remain among one of the simplest ways to stop the spread — but also one of the most controversial.

On Friday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp defended his lawsuit against the city of Atlanta's mask mandate. "I agree people need to wear a mask," he said. "I don't think it takes a mandate for people to do the right thing." Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms reacted to Kemp's lawsuit on "CBS This Morning." "It's very clear that the governor is putting politics over people," Bottoms said. "And we will have to fight the governor about this in court."...

With Kemp it is masks and with DeathSatanus it is schools. Florida is already exploding and by the end of Sept. (schools open in Aug.) I predict the whole schools system will have collapsed because there aren't enough teachers able to come to work. I think almost every county is submitting a waiver request because there is no way to safely bus this many kids to school every day. The wealthy kids will be home schooled or use the counties online version so it's just people who have to work, who will send their kids to school and who could get very sick and some die and it's taking 12 days to get the test results. The rapid test is bunk, my SIL had CV19 tested negative with rapid test, still had 102 fever the next day & had swab test - it took 12 days to get back the positive result and by that time he was fine. How fucking ridiculous is that!

I am really worried since Assmouth can now hide the numbers all he wants and how will we know other than our own direct experience that folks are dropping like flies while he lies to facilitate their deaths for profits for the rich & his political power.

It'll never be "leveling off" until everyone is infected and/or dead. Something needs to be done to stop it in its tracks. As long as there are "hosts" (people) for this virus to settle in, it will keep going and going and reproducing itself.

And as another note, 9000 - 10,000+ cases a day being considered as "leveling off" is OBSCENE. You want it to "level off" at maybe a handful to a couple hundred cases a day (statewide). Only way to get there quickly is to completely shut down.

You don't see any "herd immunity" to what is often called "the common cold" (which can be caused by either various rhinoviruses or various non-lethal coronaviruses).

She is, with distinct language, able to distill a concept down to a golden nugget. She's also not afraid to get in touch with her inner mama bear. I like her lots. I hope they prevail against Governor Kemp in the lawsuit.
