A growing number of Nebraska parents are choosing to homeschool their children amid the coronairus pandemic.
The Nebraska Department of Education had processed 3,400 requests as of Tuesday, up 21% from the 2,800 that had been processed at the same time last year. The total includes parents who were already homeschooling last school year.
Officials said the numbers may go higher still as parents continue to evaluate the reopening plans of their childrens schools, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
Stephanie Morgan, a longtime homeschooling parent and advocate involved with several homeschooling organizations in Omaha, said shes been fielding a lot of questions from moms interested in homeschooling. Morgan ran an informal survey on social media and found that most new Nebraska homeschooling parents were doing it because of the pandemic.

(19,844 posts)illogical. Was he inferring that low income kids would get meals if there was no school. If that is what he's referring to, then why has he cut school lunch programs, and food stamps for families, etc. He's a fkn moron.

(17,911 posts)Many times it's done by those nowhere near qualified and in my mind children need interaction with kids from different backgrounds. They're going to have to interact with other folks eventually. Might as well start them young. That aside, in the face of a dangerous pandemic and equally dangerous political hacks, sometimes you gotta to do what you gotta to do.

(15,763 posts)Republicans look favorable to homeschooling so youd think theyd welcome another year to have parents get used to the idea. Flexibility has to be a positive in the decision. But yet republicans are fighting this. So weird.

(19,844 posts)companies, school security companies, the companies that prepare meals for schools, etc, etc wouldn't be able to make money if schooling was done remotely.
Pushing kids back to school is trump's way of saying, "see, the nation is back to pre CV-19 days, so, all is well". uggggh.

(17,911 posts)And public schools are the largest child care institutions in the US. Donnie also thinks this will somehow help him with women voters. Getting their kids out of their hair I guess. How that's supposed to actually work in the face of a deadly pandemic I don't know. Donnie logic only makes a tiny particle of sense if you divorce yourself from all care, love and kindness towards your children, spouse, family, everyone in existence but yourself. And your thoughts and ideas are the only reality. The man is really that f'd up. Scary thing is, most of his followers are just as damaged. A shrink could publish reams of papers on these people.
