Biden leads by double digits as coronavirus takes a toll on the president, Post-ABC poll finds

Source: Washington Post

-snip-

Biden leads Trump 55 percent to 40 percent among registered voters. That compares with a 10-point Biden lead in May and a two-point edge in March, at a time when the pandemic was just beginning to spread rapidly in parts of the country. Among those who say they are certain to vote, Biden’s lead stands at 11 points.

Despite the president’s attempts to shift the electorate’s focus to his criticisms of Biden, both candidates’ supporters are treating the November election as a referendum on Trump. Among Trump voters, 72 percent say what is most important is reelecting the president, including 47 percent who say this is extremely important, while 21 percent say their motivation is to defeat Biden.

Among Biden voters, the results are roughly the opposite, with 67 percent saying what is most important is defeating the president, including 48 percent who say this is extremely important, and 24 percent saying that electing the former vice president is their main motivation.

-snip-

The drop in Trump’s overall approval is related to a more precipitous decline in how Americans judge his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. On that question, there has been a net drop of 28 points in his approval margin since March as the president has repeatedly contradicted or ignored health experts in his administration and in the states, stoked confusion about the importance of wearing masks and at times appeared indifferent to the crisis even as conditions in many parts of the country were worsening. Currently, 38 percent approve of Trump’s handling of the pandemic, and 60 percent disapprove.

ABC News story on the poll here:

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/pandemic-surge-damages-trump-boosting-bidens-white-house/story?id=71779431

-snip-

Three and a half months ago the two candidates were virtually even in trust to handle the pandemic, Trump +2 percentage points, 45-43%. Today, with COVID-19 cases surging around the nation, Biden leads Trump on the issue by a 20-point margin, 54-34%.

-snip-

Beyond job approval, Biden leads Trump by 26 points in being seen as having the better personality and temperament to serve as president. In a related finding, a vast 76% of Americans say Trump, in talking about people he disagrees with, “crosses the line in terms of what’s acceptable.” Fifty points fewer, 26%, say Biden does the same.

-snip-

Biden leads by double digits on other personal attributes as well – better understanding the problems of people like you (+17 points), being more honest and trustworthy (+14), better representing your personal values (+12) and having a better idea of what America should stand for (+10). Trump pushes to parity on just one, who’s the stronger leader, an even 45-45% split.

-snip-

These gaps in views of the candidates inform their current standings: Americans divide 54-39% in Biden’s favor if the election were today. Among registered voters, the margin’s the same, 55-40%. Among likely voters Biden still leads, albeit by a closer 10 points, 54-44%, signaling the customary GOP advantage in turnout – potentially one of Trump’s strongest weapons.

-snip-

It looks like ABC rounded poll results differently, getting 54% to 39% instead of 55% to 40%.

Apparently, pathogens and parasites have found out how to control a segment of the population like puppets, so you've got a tapeworm controlling a human, agreeing with a hantavirus infection controlling another human on the idea that "This pandemic is good for us too, strain on hospitals and it's harder for people to go to the doctor period, go coronavirus!"

They're controlling people like puppets and that's why 38% of people say they approve of Trump's handling of the pandemic. The only other explanation for this is "You know... morons"

Sorry.

one of the very few things he's truthful and accurate about--he could start shooting these fools himself in public and they'd still worship him.

I'd say his foaming-at-the-mouth support is probably around 20%

I say this as someone who lives and works among a ton of trump voters. They fall into those two categories. Some of them really think Trump is the chosen one. They even think that he is "about to" blow the lid off some worldwide child trafficking ring and start making arrests of well know individuals. These people are over the top conspiracy people who would vote for trump over Christ..
The other category simply say that the dems want to raise your taxes and takeover your life and ruin your (their) business. Oh, plus communists.

Disrupters seek change to current predicament. Study Chaos Theory, Disrupters. You can expect nothing but the roiling of everything you thought you understood. They are trying to shake people's minds away from the reality they see and know.

Given their predicament, you'd think Repubs would have a hard time carrying that state this year. Between the COVID outbreak (it's impact on older voters and voting availability), felon voter limits, USPS crisis, school openings and whatever the Governor/Federal agents can do to limit voting in areas they choose, I'd say Biden carrying the state isn't a done deal. I see similar possibilities in many swing states where the ability to vote either at consolidated polling places or by mail may make the race much tighter than it would have been if things were (or will be come November) at some more normal level.

Team Trump is really backed into a corner and we know how a cornered creature with nothing to loose behaves under those circumstances.

But it certainly seems as though, at this point, its Bidens to lose.
I'm surprised that only 67% say beating trump is the main focus. It should be the main focus for 90%+

My husband saw a Daily Kos article indicating Joe Biden is getting daily briefing now and indications are that Russia is interfering in the election again.

I don't know how true that info is but I seemed to remember Bush Sr got Briefings after leaving office is this true for all Presidents and VP?

"Just to see what the other side is saying." I think he does it just to make me nauseous. He switches back when I start throwing things.

There was some, "expert", on there a few days ago talking about the existence of a hoard of, "secret trump voters". That makes me think major cheating is going to happen again, and they know it.

Very stressful.

support Trump, but who can be guaranteed to vote for him?

They didn't materialize as voters in 2016, either, though Hillary's popular vote win (which matched the final polls pretty closely) wasn't by a wide enough margin, or widespread enough, to become an Electoral College win.
