Gov. Laura Kelly orders Kansas K-12 students to wear a mask when schools reopen

Source: Kansas City Star

ll Kansas K-12 public and private school students, along with their teachers, will have to wear a mask. Everyone must sanitize their hands at least once an hour. All who enter school each day must have their temperature taken.

For the nearly 500,000 public school students in Kansas and their teachers, the upcoming school year will be unlike any they have seen. Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday released two executive orders governing schools — one delaying the start of school until after Labor Day and another mandating districts take certain safety precautions.

Kelly announced the orders last week, but her office released the actual texts Monday afternoon. They provide the fullest picture to date of what students, teachers and parents should expect this fall.

Republicans during the 4-5 phase re-opening decided they'd had enough and threw the doors wide open to business, bars and churches to unlimited people and we got what we got. Thousands and thousands of new positive cases. And they still BITCH about her taking action on corona virus.

She's a Democrat elected Gov, a woman and a leader. Those old, white hair Republican fucks in Topeka can't stand her or her taking a leadership role.

Put them on a cot? Send them home on the bus? Call their parents? Send them to class anyway? I suppose it's academic anyway, since it's all over once the the buses roll.

13. That's why I feel like all this constant temperature checking is going to eventually backfire.

As are the thin sheets of plexiglass - the virus will find ways around these things.

7. Not only will Kansas have a huge surge in new cases this fall......

but also, hundreds of kids will suffer skin damage and/or allergic reactions from over-use of sanitizer........

In addition, someone has to provide and distribute 1/2 million fresh (or freshly cleaned) masks every single day!

The ideal public health solution would be to hold all classes remotely, like in April and May. Second best would be a mix. Third is meeting in person with protective measures. Worst is what was voted on in Orange County last week, meeting normally as if nothing in the world were the matter. I don't think that will ever happen, but if it does, it will last about two weeks. This regime might last a little longer but eventually there will be an outbreak somewhere and they will have to revert to complete remote instruction again.

I expect some version of that scenario to play out everywhere, at all levels, and to be back to total remote by Halloween.

'Tis what it is.

I remember trying to give my kid a bath while balancing the other one on the vanity.

Try that with 15-25 1ST Graders.

You might as well order all the cats in the city to be herded into Arrowhead Stadium.

Hell, you might as well just order the virus to disappear, or stop being a virus.

We couldn't even get people to silence their cellphones during Department Head meetings, and we were all Officers in the greatest Navy in the world.
