Trump's show of force in Portland, of all places, is not giving him the great campaign clips he wanted. Instead, the protests are growing, and now it looks like the police unions are lobbying directly for the federal intervention -- probably because cops are so pissed off by the "defund police" movement that they want to retaliate with chaos in the streets. Via the Daily Beast:

Although Portland leadership roundly decried the federal presence, the president of Portland’s police union met with the head of the Department of Homeland Security last week to discuss the agents, apparently without the knowledge of the city’s police chief. The president of Chicago’s police union made his own envoys, asking Trump for federal intervention.

Trump might have heard him: 150 federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations are gearing up to head to the city, the Chicago Tribune first reported. Either way, protesters say local cops and the feds are clearly colluding

Police unions asking for Federal troops and now Chicago PU (article states Philadelphia's FOP is asking for troops also) getting involved? This is not going to end well with local law and fed's working hand-in-hand with Trump admiration of dictators. If state militias put their hands into this toxic stew, what is left?

2. Police Unions are a huge part of the problem, they are the ones pushing white nationalism.

They are where the real racists abide dug in deep to keep racism flowing. This is the group that needs defunding and disallowed, they are the enemies in way too many cases, including Portland, Chicago and Philadelphia. The chief of polices/mayors need to take a stand and fire these asses encouraging illegal strong man tactics against minorities and liberals.

7. No one in the police union has standing to invite federal forces into the city.

They are all employees of the City of Portland, ultimately reporting to the city's Mayor, and I am sure their contract doesn't allow them to meddle in the City's governance. If this is true, it is a blatant case of insubordination, punishable by loss of rank, employment, benefits and/or city's pension. Not sure if criminal charges can be brought against them, but it's quite possible.

Personally, I don't consider them to have a union. They refer themselves as an association.

And I get peeved when I receive calls from their group for donations. Why the hell should I make any donations to them? None of the other labor unions make calls to private citizens asking for donations. They get paid enough for their job. They get good benefits than most people. I did some research and found out they also use that money to lobby.

I also get peeved when police cars are used for their funerals. They are using government vehicles for private use.

They aren't exactly local government, although police departments are...

Do PU need to work with local government before making this type of decision.

I still don't know exactly why the feds aren't kicked out of Portland property. (Although they have a right to be on federal property on federal buildings...which is like a few buildings

ETA: I somehow landed on Ted Cruz's FB page last night. He posted how Mpls has descended into anarchy due to the Democrats and that Democrats supports riots and destruction. He had hundreds of posters agreeing with him. They were not bots either, but actually constituents in Texas.

The article from an Oregon paper said the police are working with the feds then they said they weren't. I couldn't figure it out since they were contradicting each other.
