McConnell says next COVID-19 relief bill will include stimulus checks

Source: The Hill

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday that Republicans want to include a second round of stimulus checks and Paycheck Protection Program funding as part of their forthcoming coronavirus proposal.

"Speaking of building on what worked in the CARES Act, we want another round of direct payments, direct payments to help American families keep driving our national comeback," McConnell said from the Senate floor.

McConnell, during his floor speech, did not provide details on who would be able to qualify for the next round of stimulus checks. But traveling across Kentucky during the two-week July 4 recess he repeatedly referenced individuals who make up to $40,000 per year, suggesting Republicans could place a lower income ceiling to qualify for the direct assistance in the fifth coronavirus bill.

Republicans embracing the next round of checks is a stark turnaround from recent months, where several GOP senators said they were either opposed or not convinced of the need for more checks. But the movement toward a second round of checks comes as the economy remains rocky as the country's coronavirus cases continue to climb. Unemployment also remains stuck in the double digits.

That would be more likely in a lame duck session after the election I think.

stimulus package. So I think it's our job to make sure that the voters know exactly what that would mean. But it would not end the contributions to SS. It would cut constitutions however in a time when we need to be increasing them, not cutting them.

Moscow Mitch and trump are causing the trump depression we're very close to being in soon. trump has had them stiff the American people like he's done to contractors, and by doing this many will be losing everything.

they hold the cards now. They don't need to compromise to give away the store, stand firm. No payroll tax cuts, no amnesty for corporations killing Americans.

He and his wife probably have their applications at the ready for the PPP loans/grants. He sure as hell wouldn't be willing to approve the program if it didn't include money for them.

I see his PAC came up with $25M for his campaign. Maybe he can buy a new tan suit plus socks and shoes to go with it.

But all its doing is pissing people off more again against them and their party. People are running from trump and Moscow Mitch now in even larger numbers for what they're trying to do, and trumps crazy extreme fascist policies. Forcing children and teachers back to school with a deadly very active pandemic raging out of control will only turn more states blue. These two especially need to go .
